problems turing in 4 wheel drive

When I make sharp turns in 4 wheel drive it seem like something is stopping my front tires. If I turn the wheel most the way without giving it any gas the truck will stop, but if I just put it back in 2 wheel the it keeps going if that makes any sense. Also when I make sharp turn in 4 wheel drive like if turning into a parking space its real jurky. Any have this problem or any ideas??? Thanks for any help you can offer. My truck btw is a 2001 gmc sierra extra cab k1500

yeah, take it out of 4wd...when its in 4wd the tires will have to skip on the ground to turn tightly, it is also bad for your tires. the truck was not ment to be in 4x4 100% of the time and is only for offroad use, while on the road keep it in 2wd, the real thing is that while in 4wd the front tires are pulling the same as the rear so when you go to change the direction of the front tires on a hard surface such as pavement the steering system and tires cannot compensate for the drastic change so they that skiping motion is the tires bouncing off the ground to turn. in other words, keep it out of 4wd when you do not need it.

I agree with the previous post. I own a 2001 Sierra Ext cab too. Unless you are in snow up to your ya ya or traction problems require 4x4.....stay out of 4WD. BTW , once inna while it is ok to engage the 4WD and drive the truck straight. It keeps the transfer case lubed and the sensor light off in the dash. Fastest way to blow a transfer case is to drive it all the time. BTW you have a cold start engine knock? EMAIL ME! John

The stiff turning is COMPLETELY normal. Is this your 1st 4wd?
