A few question please help

Ok im new to the turbo seen Ive recently bought a 99 gst spyder and am curious is there any books out there to learn more about how a turbo works and all of the electronics, gauges etc work. And why thier needed? Also i believe my BOV is leaking a bit, i wanna replace it with a aftermarket one and have heard not to vent to the atmosphere because of the MAS. What other options do i have can i use a aftermarket one set up like the factory or is there a way to get the sweet BOV sound? And what is the difference between the BOV and the wastegate All help would be greatly appriciated. Any other tips on what to buy or things to do for reliability and performance please let me know?

thanks
andy

re

well if it is a 99 you can do a atmosphere blow of vale. but the one i recomend the most is the gredy type-s,it has a nice sound and it is not an atmosphereic blow of valve. there is diffrent in the bov, and waste gate, the waste gate lets the exshaust out of you turbo so it dosn't get over pressurized and blow to shit. if you want to do a upgrade on it get an external wast gate. your blow off valve let the air out when you shift so you don't get back pressure on your turbo and damage it. if you have any more questions about a turbo just ask.

All DSMs from 90-99 are all MAS equiped, preturbo. So I dont understand why a 99 will be able to run vented.

BOV is a safety device to release the excess pressure created when you close the throttle plate and the turbo is still spinning under its own momentum. The wastegate is the control system for the turbo to regulate boost pressure to whatever you need it set to. Go to www.racingknowledge.org, DSM section, and there is a sticky on the top of the page all about BOVs, WGs, and BCs. See if that doesnt answer most of the questions.

Edit> ID any mods are reading, it wouldnt hurt to make these basic topics stickys here, either a link to that site, or I can cut and paste into a new thread here, so I dont have to keep refering to other forums or manually transfering all the info here just to get lost down the page in a few days
