Mugen Racing Chip...is it worth it?

I was wondering if those chips actually help as much as they say they do.

I saw on ebay one for like $20.00 that raised the max RPM to 10000! And the VTEC kick in at 4400 RPM. Is this true? Anyone ever installed one?

Well...

Do the chips really work that well? How does it work? How much does a real chip cost?

I think that this is about the only thing you can get from mugen for under $20, and they're $12 a piece.

I don't even think that mugen makes a chip. Only thing electrical like that would be the ECU and it's like $1,200.

This is specially mapped to the fuel mixture, ignition timing, and combustion. The rev limit is increased to 9,100 rpm from the normal 8,400 rpm, and the VTEC valve timing changeover point is lowered to 4,700 rpm from the normal 5,300 rpm. It is highly recommended that reinforced valve springs be fitted if this E.C.U. is used.

I'd say they don't do much of anything for $20 man.

Re: Mugen Racing Chip...is it worth it?

Alrighty. I thought it sounded fishy. By the way...how much is it gonna cost me for a decent intake/header/exhaust and how much HP will it give me?

I drive a 93 Civic Ex (D16Z6)

OK....well still need a price range but I'll tell you some anyway.

This intake's got a COOLNESS rating of like 12/10 and it's only $72.00 at King Motorsports.

DC Sports 4 into 1 Header. $260.80 at NOPI Online Store.

Your on your own on the muffler, just don't make it sound too much like a pissed off bumble bee. Don't go with a cheap ass muffler.

Re: Mugen Racing Chip...is it worth it?

as far as the max rpm goes... hell you could have a chip that would raise the max rpm to 20,000. this doesn't mean the engine will be able to do it without blowing into a million pieces...

Re: Mugen Racing Chip...is it worth it?

Well, I've heard good things about chips as long as you go with the right one. I've heard the JET performance chip is nice, but I couldn't really tell you anything about them.
