10:1 CR is this possible and whats the benefits and is it worth it?

I was reading about using NA 300ZX(Z32) pistons on a SR20DE. I read that it will increase compression to 10:1. This question is to George or whoever else has knowledge. I was wondering what has to be done inorder to do this and what are the benefits....TIA

Yep, the UK spec GT also has 10:1 as standard, and it has 150 BHP as standard. The problem arises when it comes to turboing the engine, ive had to reduce mine as its far too high.

Well, if you use 300ZX pistons with the domes intact, you will achieve an 11:1 CR. I shaved the domes off mine (as did Mike Kojima) which by itself would yield a 10:1 CR. But, we also had our heads redone buy DPR and the combustion chambers welded, making them smaller and yielding an 11:1 CR in combination with the flat topped 300ZX pistons.

Indeed a 10:1 CR requires no ECU reprogramming. An 11:1 CR requires a new JWT program.

The benefit is additonal power, but it's something you would want to do when rebuilding your engine, but wouldn't want to just do this by itself. It wouldn't be worth it in that case.

Hey Geo,
I am gonna start the work on my roller rocker engine block.
I am told by so many ppl that 11:1CR is kinda too high for reliabilty...
well i am thinking if i am going to do it i might as well go higher than 10:1...
what are the ways to increase the compression ratio?
and is it possible to increase the ratio to say 10.5:1 instead of the ultimate 11:1?
would you think a normal ecu tuner would be capable of tuning the ECU with the raise in CR? regarding the fact that we do not have access to JWT's product here in NZ.

and what duration and cam lift of the cams do you recommand?

a thinner head gasket will raise compression. the reverse is true to lower it
