Stuck Thermostat
Hey fellow cyber friends, I'm tackling my first hands on do it yourself job on my 92 3251. It over heated the other day and started squirting water from somewhere under the intake manifolf. For some reason I started taking out the radiator (disconnected the hoses and all that) But theres these two tubes at the bottom of the radiator being held by an allen wrench screw that I couldnt take off. So Ive given up on that. I've taken off the thermostat housing now but I can't get the damn thermostat out. Its almost like its glued on there. If I just pry the crap out of it will I damage anything ? And this is as dumb as it sounds, where exactly is the water pump ? I think I have the dreaded plastic impeller pump and i want to take it out.
Please help me out guys, I live in an apartment and the manager is already harrassing me about doing mechanical work on my car on the premises.

Try pulling the rubber o-ring surrounding the thermostat off first. I find that it makes pulling out the thermostat much easier. You might as well replace the thermostat since you're already there so I wouldn't worry about breaking it. Also be sure to replace the housing and the profile gasket as they also tend to warp/leak. The water pump is behind the pulley that your engine fan is mounted on. Should be like four 10 mm bolts to remove the pulley, then maybe four 10mm nuts. On the water pump there should be two threaded holes. I'm not sure the exact size and thread pitch of the holes, but a good German shop/dealership should know what size bolt is needed to run into these holes in order to remove the water pump. Well, I got the water pump off. The plastic impeller is still intact but im not gonna wait for it to go im replacing it. But I still cant get that damn thermostat out. Its cooked on there good. I already bent it and broke it up some and it just wont give.

Your stuck thermostat
Hey you were saying something about two hoses on the bottom of the radiator, that you could not get off? Is the car an automatic? because if it is the two hoses on the bottom are more than likely the trans. cooler lines and if you do get them off be ready to catch the trans oil that will be leaking out.B-R
