Tranny Question...
I've got a leak coming from my transmission that I just can't find the source. I've read through the chiltons manual, but it doesn't dive into much detail about transmissions. {Any on have FSM???}
Anyways...more about the leak. I seem to only notice it when the van is idling in park. Once in a while, not everytime, it will leave a small area on the driveway maybe 2" in diameter. It seems to be dripping from the front motor/tranny mount. Like the leak is on top of the tranny housing and running down? Is there any type of seal on top of the tranny? I've checked the in/out lines that run to the radiator and they seem to be fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

there is no SEAL on the top of the transaxle Possible places leaking
would be in the front of the solenoid pack, which is near the front mount {covered by black plastic cover}///oil cooler fittings which are hose clamped /// leaking of the pump gasket from{inside the bell} |

I braved the cold and checked it out. It was a loose hose clamp connecting the hose from the transmission to the radiator. It is right above what appears to be a drain valve for the transmission fluid. Hope yours is as simple to fix.

Re: Tranny Question...
I have a 2001 and have a similar problem. Maybe 8-10 little spots on the garage floor. No obvious leak and the level is not even low, so right now it is a small leak. There is so much tape on everything, and it was 40 degrees in my garage with the heater on (I know, get a bigger heater), so I didn't spend a ton of time looking today. Of coure we just hit 36K and ran out of warrenty. I have a tranny pan, but did not see any kind of drain on it. Jpoir or others, if the front of the car is North, and the passenger side is east, where is the hose clamp that you found? My van is 3 year newer, and I can see from above the bottom of the transmission dipstick, and thought it might be from there, but if there is a hose close around I will check for it.

Re: Re: Tranny Question...
The leak would be Northwest. My issue was with the hose clamp that goes into the west side of the radiator. There was a drain valve just below it. I have the 3.3 liter engine for my '98. You may not have the same configuration. Hope this helps.
