96 transmission

I'm wondering what the consenus is on what would cause intermittent shift problem in transmission...'96 1500 automatic 86K mi. It shifts fine the first 2-3 mi. and after warmed up, it may hang in 1st, 2nd, or just shift late, and then return to normal again after a couple more miles. Any ideas?
Thanks guys

Thanks Winston for your imput

Re: 96 transmission

mine does that...

it's real common on dodge trannies.. it's a problem with an overdrive solenoid..

what mine does is hang in 2nd forever, and slip while going into 3rd..

a transgo shift kit will temporarily cure the problem.
