fuel cut or ignition cut on MR2 turbo????

93 mr2 turbo w/ greddy turbo td06 kit.

car cuts out like a fuel cut or ignition cut. we are not sure wich one this is. customer is using the hks fcd to no avail. seems like an ignition cut, would the greddy boost cut controler solve this problem? it seems to cut around 5000. also is running an safcII.

The MR2 has a fuel cut at 12 psi of boost.
Maybe the FCD is hooked up wrong?

At any rate, the simplest solution is corking the vac hose that goes to the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor is next to the diagnostic box on the trunk firewall.

The only thing that sensor does is coctrol fuel cut and operate the OEM boost gauge. So you WILL lose the OEM boost gauge ... not a loss since it is not worth a damn.

*Warning* this will completely eliminate fuel cut. A properly installed HKS FCD will raise FC.

sorry to bug in, but is it 12psi? or is it 14psi?
cuz i have mine running on stock turbo, no FCD at 13 psi
im not asking to be an asshole but i do wanna raise my boost, eventually i will have to get a FCD but maybe i can push my limits to 14 without fuel cut?
hehe
yes i am cheap and broke!

It is 12 psi.

What gauge are you getting 13 psi at?
Where do you have the gauge tapped in at?

I appreciate being "cheap and broke" ... and I do not recommmend turning up the boost if that is your current situation.

Re: fuel cut or ignition cut on MR2 turbo????

Turning up the boost is why I was in the situation I was. Turned up the boost too high and broke the #2 piston ringlands. I was also broke and now 6 months, 3 loans, and 9k later its finally running again. Just like jekylhyde said, plug the vacuum hose on the bottom of the MAP sensor.

The boost gauge on my car seems to be running properly, could it be that i have a JDM engine that out of the factory it runs more boost?

well im sure that im running 13 psi.

Also 14 psi shouldnt be too much to handle for the car, its when you take it to 16 then thats when you r pushing it. At least thats what everyone here tells me. How many pounds did you raise before you blew your #2 piston?>

Re: fuel cut or ignition cut on MR2 turbo????

I had a 50 trim ct-26. I blew the hose off the manual boost controller racing a mustang so it made as much boost as possible prob about 20-21lbs on pump gas with 20% fuel taken out. Not a good combination. It was detonating REALLY bad, but I was still pulling on him so I didnt let off. I ran 18lbs of boost all day on pump gas, with the stock intercooler, it'll be fine. Its not the boost you have to worry about, as the MR2 block will hold 500+ Hp, but just make sure its getting enough fuel.

You will never run out of fuel with the ct26 (or variation thereof).
The danger in our cars is detonation, not running lean (unless you go to big boost on a bigger turbo).

HondaChili, it is possible that your FC is higher on a Jspec engine.

Re: fuel cut or ignition cut on MR2 turbo????

Even if there is 20-30% fuel taken out with an AFC? I assure you that I was detonating. It was popping and studdering like crazy, then smoke was pouring out of the PCV tube, and I had 165,100,165,165 compression.

Re: Re: fuel cut or ignition cut on MR2 turbo????

OK, correction, you will never run out of fuel with a CT26, unless you intentionally limit the fuel going to the engine. My point was that the OEM fuel system can sustain any power level the ct26 can make.

20-30% on the SAFC is a really bad idea in an MR2. You popped your motor from your timing being advanced.

The SAFC messes with the AFM signal. When the ECU sees this reduced AFM signal, it advances timing to dangerous levels.

advanced timing + no fuel = boom
