Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
Hey, I was looking through some forums and saw some interesting information. I was kinda suprised to see that the Mazda MX-6 was so well reguarded, I just havent heard much about it. So Im wondering whats the better car out of; Mazda MX-6 (1995) or MR2 turbo (93) or MR2 N/A (93, or 91). Thanks alot.

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
Well the MR2 NA loses out to the MR2 Turbo...but the MR2 Turbo CRUSHES the MX6...so it's really no contest...

id have to say the mr2 as well... even though im a little biased it looks like others agree
just wondering though... what was the reason for the specific dates?? all mr2 turbos have the same 200hp with only minor mods done over the years... no mods that i kno of were made from 91 - 92 on the mr2 turbo and n/a |

I was making sure that you guys knew that I meant the 91-95 mr2s not the newer ones. Also, would the mr2 M/A come in second?

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
Dunno if the N/A would be the MX-6 but if it did it wouldnt be by much, but i'd still rather have a N/A MR2 over a MX-6 any day....

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
well as far as the 240 vs. mx6 goes stock the mx6 is a little faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile. handling would be debatable. the mx6 is fwd 240 is rwd. if you plan to mod minor things i take an mx6 over the 240, but more serious mods the 240. the only thing the mr2 N/A has over the mx-6 is handling and its a little lighter, which the mx-6 makes up for in torgue and hp. all in all my preferance would be
1. mr2 turbo( although a little harder to work on if you dont have the experience as its not a traditional engine in the front) 2. mx-6 for stock and minor blot ons. 240 if you are talking minor 3 240 stock with minor bolt ons. mx-6 if we are talking major. 4. mr2 N/A theres not a whole lot out there as far as mods are concerned for the N/A, ive looked endlessly. all in all drive some of these cars and make your descision |

The only thing that makes the MR2s a little hard to work on is the lack of space around the engine, which is not something most of the mid engined cars Iv worked on have had a problem with. An engine is an engine, no matter where its located, and in the case of the MR2 is actualy uses a very ordinary transverse layout, as if the car was FWD, only the whole subframe and driveline assembly has been moved to the back of the car.

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
Thanks guys. I was initialy going to pick up a MR2 Turbo (pick up, lol, more like save up for a long time then finally be able to buy), but then I heard that its a difficult car to drive and that its not for beginers, which i would fall under. I mean I think Im a pretty good driver but, the thought of me mis judging something and forcing my insurence rates through the roof scares me. Then I thought I should get a 240sx, I like the looks of the coupe and the fastback, but then I heard about the power factor, kinda weak. I thought it would be enough for me. My friend is getting a Mazda MX-6 so i thought Id through that in the mix. But Im not sure if Im willing to put a lot of work and money into the 240sx, little things ya, but engine swaps, while I wont definatly rule it out, I think my be a bit out of my range. Thanks alot guys. Youve made this a little easier.

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
well jubei, one thing alot of begginers don not realize is you can alot of power from the standard Ka24de. you can turbo the Ka, and be going a little faster than if you were to swap it out for the common swap engine in the sr20det engine. if you like them get one.

Ah, very cool. I hadnt heard many people talking about adding a turbo to the existing engine, but I think thatd be something Id do. Thanks man.

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
Yeah well, the SR20 gets a lot of hype because Japan got it and we didn't, so that OBVIOUSLY makes it a better motor. The KA24 is a stout truck motor, and it can handle a decent amount of PSI stock. Since you're a beginner, you probably won't even care about or notice the lack of power, but once you get more experienced, you can turbo the KA24 for only a few thousand and have a low 14-second car with great handling and solid build quality

Re: Mazda MX-6 vs Mr2 turbo vs Mr2 N/A
haha, kman, you may have just saved me thousands. Thanks, I seriously like that idea of throwing a turbo in there. Um, one last question, how much would that run someone?
