soob noob...any major differences between the L and the GT?
Hey all, just bought my 1st Subaru last night (Legacy L 35th anniv edition with 5 speed) I really wanted the GT but I could not see any huge differences that warranted the extra 5 g's on the price tag.
The only differences I saw were the side body molding was slightly altered, leather seats, maybe a spoiler, side airbags, and that was about it. Is this correct? I mean, I would love to have the GT emblem on the back but there was no difference in drivetrain as far as I could see, and I am not a fan of leather anyway. So I went with the L 35th anniv. edit. which had a sunroof, and the same 16in rims that come on the GT. Can anyone tell me if there is a major benefit to the GT that I missed? I am completely happy with the L but I was just curious. Thanks alot! |

I'm pretty sure the L has a EJ22 which is a 2.2 engine and the GT has a EJ25 which is a 2.5 engine. So more power actually.

Actually, the newer L's have the exact same 2.5L engine as the GT.
All you wernt paying for was the Luxury. I would have bought an L as well |

I went through the manual last night and found the only real main differences that the GT had over the L were: 1. a lighted ring around the ignition 2. a wiper defroster for the windshield 3. the rear differential was a little better on the GT (subarus are awesome in the snow regardless..I doubt I will notice...) 4. 4 beam headlights as opposed to 2 5. an 8 way power seat as opposed to a 6 way Then there was the side body molding that was a little more pronounced but when I have the spoiler put on, I am going to see if they can also swap out the side moldings on my L for the ones on the GT...I cant see it being that hard. I am still glad I saved the 4-5 grand over the GT. I can live with these minor differences. Thanks for the replies! |

I didn't realize they had the same motor. I'd just buy an L and then get it reupholstered in leather and end up paying around $700 more.
