Question D16Z6 Head on D16y7

I have a 97 honda civic coupe DX still stock and like 0.00 budget I want to purchase a D16z6 head and swap it for my D16y7 head I think this is my most cost effective route. Will it work and what problems do you see arrising I hear people putting this head on the JDM D15B and acheiving 125HP the D16y7 comes 106 HP so what would the change be.

A buddie of mine (he's also on H-T.com) toys around with D-engines, he's on his 3rd one (a D16Z6 now) and had a mini-me swap on a D15 I think it was the motor before his current Z6, and though you may achieve the full ~125hp of an EX motor with a mini-me motor (providing you have everything hooked up correctly and VTEC running correctly if you use a Y8 head) he told me a swapped head motor will NEVER perform as well as a factory EX motor of either a Z6 or Y8.

So like a D16Y7 or D15B7 motor with an 6th gen Y8 VTEC head will never achieve what a factory D16Y8 motor will with the factory Y8 being stock and the D16Y7/D15 having a Y8 or A6 head. Just something about "building" your own motor that makes it not as good. But if budget is your issue, then go for the head swap. But also check into getting a complete A6 or Y8 motor instead.

I see alot about the A6 verseus the Y8 but which one is actually better and If I plan on adding turbo which one should I go with..

Question Re: D16Z6 Head on D16y7

well i think i found the right subject! i want to put an A6 head on a D15B8, 5G(CX). would your buddie know about it? my bugdet is less than silent runner's because i already bought the parts>>>now, i'm a little worried it won't work because of OBD>>> first you said that the Z6 or Y8 wouldn't be as good as stock and then, farther down you say "A6" or Y8. the A6 has no v-tec (4G Si), so wouldn't it match right up to the D15 w/o v-tec?
If so would either distributor work? because the head i'm about to but doesn't come with one so i need to get one if the d15 one won't work.

I'm saying take a D15 or D16 with an A6 or Y8 head swap on it, and then take a factory D16Y8 (6th gen EX motor) and the head swapped motor will not work as well as the factory motor, even though both should put out the same power. Home making a motor by swapping heads will almost never be as good as the factory motor of equal. Even if you put the VTEC head to your motor, it'll still match up because like with B-series motors and how a B16, B18 or B20 head will interchange between them, the same applies with D-series motors on D-series heads, exception of the DOHC ZC d-series motor since DOHC head will not interchange to a SOHC block no matter what series it's from.

So whichever D-series head you chose, it should work as far as I know. Look at the famed import racer Bisi who had the worlds fastest D-series motor. He ran an ALL MOTOR D15 with I believe it was an A6 head on it, and it put out over 400hp to the wheels, and could pull 10's all day.
