Delayed Starting

I own a 1998 Rodeo 150,000+ miles. When the ignition is turned to start, it takes a few seconds before engine cranks. If the key is in the on position for a few seconds before turning over, it will start without hesitation. My first thought was, there's a problem with fuel pressure reg or fuel pump. Took it to a repairman where he ran a diagnostic and determined that both catalytic converters were clogging up resulting in abnormal pressure buildup.
My question is, can a clogged converter cause the starting problem?

Thanks, Jeff T.

Jeff I highly doubt a clogged cat(s) is the cause here. Are you getting a check engine light?

Re: Delayed Starting

Yes, check engine light has been on. Mechanic tells me clogged converters cause pressure buildup triggering light.

Re: Delayed Starting

my 93 rodeo has been doing the same , if i leave the engine on for a few seconds the engine will start normally , but if not it actually takes a while to start and then it runs fine.

Take it to another shop and get a second opinion. Sounds like someone is trying to sell you something you don't need. As for the delayed starting thing: Maybe a sticky relay that isn't responding properly? Just a guess.
