1998 Maxima SE Cycling start ups. Car Ground in the Tranny??

I just bought a 1998 Maxima from a dealer and the car has a slight problem. When you start the car it cycles a bit before starting, sounds like there is something wrong with the starter, but that has been replaced along with a ground wire and it still does it. It sort of cycles and sounds like it is skipping or something. I have been told it could be many things, but particularly I have been told it could be some sort of ground for the car itself which is located in the transmission. Supposedly this can get dirt and grime up in there and that may cause a sputtering start. Problem is this requires the transmission to be dropped in order to fix it. Other than this the car run perfectly! It has 28K and I hate to pass it up for something that may be a quick fix. Anyone out there have this problem with their own Maxima, or maybe hear or know someone who has had this problem? How involved is this ground to fix?
