you need to get the z6 or y8 head ...new head bolts (you can use old ones but not reccomended ...z6 or y8 timing belt depending on the head
take the old head off and remove the timing belt ...easiest way is to pull the motor.then you take a screw and pull the oil jet out of the block inbetween pistons 3 and 2 in top of block .. you will not need this because the vtec head has one in it and because if not taken out vtec wont engage ... then turn the crank pully till the piston closest to the crank pulley is tdc (top dead center)bolt the head back up to specs at 29 fpt then slide the timing belt on and your good to go your best bet to get timing right is to get an adjustable cam gear and go get it re timed or it will run like shyt...

in your instance....get a complete y8 head and valve cover...no need for distributor...yours will work, a complete y8 intake manifold with all the sensors, y8 head gasket and timing belt, you can reuse your headbolts to save money, and most important...a helms or similar shop manual. now as for ecu's you could run p2p (ex) ecu...but you will also need to install and wire a knock sensor if yours isn't equiped with one now, and you will also have to wire 2 wires to ecu from vtec solenoid, and one wire to ground from vtec solenoid. or get adapter harness and run p28 (obd1 ex) and only have to wire the 3 wires for vtec. most importantly after removing the old head...make sure all the bolt holes are chased and free from oil/water/debris...or you will get incorrect torque numbers and head gasket will fail. will make ur y7 a good bit quicker....if u plan to boost in the future....skip the head swap
