Would Like to Know

I am not a big fan of twin turbos. i realize in my own opinion at least that single turbos done right can produce more horsepower, i however am a person who just really likes to know things. i picked up the january issue of super street and in it is a twin turbo supra. 2 gt2835's are its weapons. i would like to know all of the TT setups and how they work. i have been scouring the internet for days trying to figure it out and its killing me. and if you go to HowStuffWorks.com it says there are TT setups that use a smaller turbo to spool up a larger one. i dont need turbo 101 as i subscribe to hot rod and the last 2 issues have discussed how they work but not really TT. please help

Re: Would Like to Know

TT setups that use one small and one larger turbocharger are called sequencial. One turbo is specificly for lower RPM boost, while the other is for higher RPM boost. Most all aftermarket twin setups are just pairs of the same turbos. This way they both hit hard at the same time like a single setup. The reasoning behind a twin setup is less rotating mass to spool with a smaller turbine wheel/housing. Even though your only feeding the turbo with half the engines displacement, if the twin turbos have less rotating mass while putting out the same flow together that a single of the same kind/size then they will spool faster while putting out the same flow. By the way that Supra was posted about in the general section if you didn't see it.
