turbo for A4 3.0 ???

I just bought a 2003 a4 3.0 tiptronic trans.
I wanted to know is there is a turbo out there for this car and if so, would having a automatic transmition be a problem?

Also, where would be the best place for aftermarket parts for this model?
(chips, brakes, suspension, exhaust, intakes, etc)

Thanks for all your help.

For upgrades (chips, intake, exhaust, etc.) check out BRI- naturally aspirated engine specialists...Hold off for the turbo for now, wait until your Audi gets off warranty;-)

Thanks for the info, I will definatly check this place out.

I was going to wait for the turbo anyways but I was just wondering if it existed for this model and how good or bad is it with a tiptronic transmition. I also heard that a supercharger was in the works for the A4 3.0 from PES (Performance Engineered Systems).

I don't know much about transmitions but I have always had the feeling that an automatic transmition is never a good idea with any type of forced air systems. Is this alsways true?

Thanks again for the reply

Having a turbo with automatic transmission is often advised against because an automatic transmission shifts when it wants to, not when you want it to...A turbo is best used when the engine is working in the upper rpms...BUT, with tiptronic- for the most part you can shift when you want to, although it will shift for you at a certain point. IF you're seriously into driving fast and require complete control of your transmission, get a VAG-COM and reprogram your transmission software.

Re: turbo for A4 3.0 ???

what would be the pros and cons when deciding over a turbo or a supercharger for this car?
I just spoke with PES and they said that their supercharger would be ready to hit the streets in mid Feb.
Also, getting a VAG-COM and reprograming the trans. software would do what exactly?

Thanks again Audi Ryder, you've been a great help so far in helping me decide which road to take to give my new toy some more balls.

Re: Re: turbo for A4 3.0 ???

When choosing a turbo or supercharger for increasing performance, pause and consider:

Advantages of Supercharging:
No lag. Simple installation, decent power gains and good prices usually.

Disadvantages: No intercooler. Boost pressure is limited to specific pulley application. Since superchargers work off the drive belt, they rob the engine of power before giving any power back. Street driven superchargers can not provide the same gains as turbo systems.

Advantages of Turbos:
Free power. Gains are much better in comparison to superchargers. Infinite tunability (which means you can upgrade for more power in the future). Intercooler.

Disadvantages: Price. Many di Knowledge for turbocharging naturally aspirated engines is scarce. Turbo lag.

The truth is, having a turbo is much better than a supercharger. BUT, it depends on what your parameters are (cost, performance needs, driving style, etc.)

As for the transmission reprogram: In your car there is a stock mode "D" and a sport mode "S". Sport mode makes the shifts "quicker", and predicts what the next shift is going to be (this is great for spirited driving). The transmission reprogram allows you to be in sport mode all of the time (even in manual mode), in addition to allowing you to hold first gear until redline. Normally, if you're in first and you floor it in manual mode (go and try it), you'll see that it will shift automatically around 5,500-6000rpm. After the reprogram, it will work like you have a fully manual "sequential-like" gearbox;-)

Re: turbo for A4 3.0 ???

WOW!!!
That's some great info you are passing on.

Are you aware of any negative side effects of this transmission reprograming?

Also, other then BRI and PES, do you have any other places that you might recomend for the transmition upgrade, turbo, exhaust, etc.
Other then PES, I have not been able to find any other places that makes the turbo or supercharger for the 3.0 v6 A4 model. Do you know if these system are available for this model?

Let me just say that the info you have given me will help me alot in my final decision on which induction system to get. You have been a great help.
Thanks again.

Re: Re: turbo for A4 3.0 ???

You can check APR (audi performance and racing), but they usually specialize in 1.8T or the 2.7T products. You'd be kidding yourself if you think you'll be able to find a tuner that will send you a bolt-on kit for a turbo. The good news is BRI can custom build a turbo system for you; As such, they can work on almost any car. PES has some programs for naturally aspirated models, but not many. Sorry, you would have been better off if you got a 1.8T in the first.

Another thing is the 3.0L is a new engine- no one has fully experimented with it. Parts makers probably never will (naturally aspirated reluctance). After all, the 2.8L 30v has been around for 7yrs and there's still no parts for it...Thus, if you need upgrades for it- and I mean any upgrades including a chip, exhaust, etc., you'll probably will have to do them yourself:-(

As far as the tip mod- no problems with it so far, and the good news is that a dealer can do it for you (although they'll hassle you);-)

Re: turbo for A4 3.0 ???

Well, that probably explains the reason why I can't find anything for my car.

I bought the car at a very very low price from a family member that won some $$$$$$. That is why I don't mind investing the money in this car.
I guess I'll have to wait for PES to release their SC.

If I don't want to go to a dealer for the tip mod, where or how can I get this done?
PES sells a chip for the tiptronic but I'm not sure that it is the same thing that you are talking about.

As for the exhaust, PES sells one for the 3.0 and the company is called Milltek (995$).

I have not found an engine chip yet but I'm still looking.

I think that if I search hard and long enough I'll eventually find everything I'm looking for.

You have been a great help and I realy appreciate all the info you have given me.

Thanks
