What two foot flame out my apexi exhaust on a stock gsT?

Well.. Riddle me this automotive forums. On a ride Back for the Street Races in riverside, 2 team members of mine spotted a 2 foot flame shoot out the Exhaust for about 5 sec. while i was hitting roughly 130mph with the pedal to the ground, Now from what i noe the car was stock when i bought it, all i did was install an APEXI N1 Down pipe and the N1 Exhaust system, so its straight 3 in. piping from the turbo, no cat. the car did come with an HKS turbo timer and The HKS evc Boost controller i found after i had purchased the car hidden away under the dash fully installed and wired but both were off. Tell me could there already be a fully bulit engine under my hood!!! or possible 550 or 650 fuel injectors or could it be that the previous own had retarted the timeing so he could boost higher on the stock t25? could this be it? or is there something else. this just happened tonight so i havent had a chance to run a diagnostic, i was hoping for some insight. What do u all think?

Re: What two foot flame out my apexi exhaust on a stock gsT?

my speed limiter is about 140, or 139 or so, but more so, how would that cause a 2 foot flame to kick out the back?

The only two 'speed limiters' are some 2g FWD's at 130mph, and a 7500rpm fuel cutoff in any gear including 5th, in essence limiting your speed to whatever that is. I dont know what it is because i havent done the math or gone that fast (id rather not redline 5th gear) All other cars should go as fast as their engines will let them.

I'm thinking the only way to shoot a flame is to have un-burned gas or high enough octane so that even exaust gasses are flamable, inside the exhaust pipe. Top Fuel dragsters have flames because their engines run at too high RPM (too fast) to burn all fuel before it leaves the combustion chamber and exits through the short exhaust pipes, while still aflame. I'm not saying either could be true in your case, I don't know enough about it.

Re: What two foot flame out my apexi exhaust on a stock gsT?

i got a pic of me doing 129 on the site in my sig, and the only reason it wasn't higher was because i was fooling around trying to get the dig cam to take a pic, so i was slowing down, so believe me when i say that my GS-T has a speed limit at about 140. also my girl toy was in the car about to lose her head. this was at night and the funny part was that when the flash went off (without a flash it was all blurry red lines) it blinded us both for a couple of seconds. **warning this is inherently dangerous, don't try this yourself, at night, with a volitile blonde*** but if you still feel as if i am full of it, i will take another pic, at a higher speed, on a closed course, naturaly...

I'm I the only that does not look at the Speedo ?

If wasn't for my dyno sheet, I wouldn't of known what my top speed was
They're so much more important things to look at
me=Anti-Speedo

btw I top out at 135mph exact

The speedometer in the ar is NOT accurate. And the higher the speed, the further off it is. The speed limiter is at 130, so dont fool yourself. Its right in the ECU. The only way around it is to do what the vfaq says to remove it. GSXs do not have this speed limiter.

Whenever you hit fuel cut, wether its the speed limiter or the rev limiter, you can get flames out the back. I get it with my car at the rev limit, and on the stutter box. Its to be expected.

ok ok mabe so, but i think i found the problem. Today in the later evening my car startred sounding as though i had bought a auto zone muffler and duct taped it to a 1989 honda accord. ive seen this by the way and its not pretty.
It was also lagging and miss idleing in neutral why? ,i thought what the fu** happened?.
MASSIVE exhaust leak in the down pipe to turbo connection, my belife is that the gasket was trashed on account of the shop it was installed at was second rate and didnt use a torqe rench to mesaure the bolts, now; when the flame shot, it was fine and dandy no leak, all the sudden. exhaust leak, does this have anything to do with the the flame? is there a direct relationship here or could there be something else?

Please remind ourselves that this post is not here to debate rev limits or governed top end GST/GSX

exhaust leak wont cause flames out the back

flames will be caused from unburnt fuel ending up in the exhaust/running really rich

Re: What two foot flame out my apexi exhaust on a stock gsT?

Well i was informed that i shot flames also. I don't know if it happens at high speeds. But when i let off the gas and took a corner a few of my friends said i shot a nice flame. I have never seen this but i'm sure it was not the first time. I have the full exhaust done with a N1 and a few other mods.

Re: What two foot flame out my apexi exhaust on a stock gsT?

ya they will shot flames its kinda cool, i got 2 buddies that have there cars set up with a coil and a spark plug on the muffler and they have a kill switch to shut the motor off momentary and then they shoot flames out there back all the time its cool i wanted to do it to mine but we figured with the turbo it may not work as well because of that and also they back fire and i dont want any of that with my turbo i just figured not a huge idea but with the right straight threw exhaust the turgo will shoot some flame all on its own
