firewall? what the heck?

hey i ordered fog lights, and i searched up some install stuff. i know it pretty well, and i decided to take a look under the hood. i have NO idea where to put the wires through in the firewall. i seem some random openings, are they it? (i think they're holes for nut&bolts for other mods/options, because they seem to be placed close to another of the same size, assuming space for mount a bracket or something) ANYWAY. there are also some holes with a sponge-like material inside with a rubber plug covering it. (like the holes you use to install strut bars in) is that it? how would i take the sponge thing out? btw i have a 98rs. so if anyone else has a 3rdgen, and knows of a specific hole to get my wires through? thanks

ALSO: i have no idea how to find my wires once i get them through the firewall? i just want to make sure before i try anything...and get stuck yanno? thanks so much for reading the excruciatingly long thread, and thanks even more for your input.

i guess u never installed an amp kit b4 then. yes, those holes should do fine, just make sure when u do put the wires through that it doesn't scrape or rub against the firewall hole. this can and might lead to cutting ur fog light wires and blow them out. to help eliminate this, cover the wire where it is passing through the hole w/ electrical tape, unless of course the rubber grommets is preventing ur wires to touch, then u have no problem at all.

And you might have to peel some carpet back.

I dunno what you are talking about. Never Pull back the carpet when you are trying to get in the hole. You are most likely to get slapped.
Best advice: if there is hair around it go for the middle and aim for the wet spot.

Re: firewall? what the heck?

I am interested in the same thing, but I want to use the stock wiring harness. I was told that the wires for the fog light option are in all wiring harnesses for integras. I already found the pigtail under the hood, but I cannot track it to anywhere inside the car. Am I missing something?

To find the wire once they are inside, use a flashlight in the engine bay close to the hole you are using so that you can see the light from the inside of the car. Have someone else move the wire around from the engine bay so that you can see which one it is. After you have found the proper wire, pull it through the hole CAREFULLY. Don't nick the insulation on the wire, this can lead to ground outs. Use a grommet on the hole. After you get done with that, run the wire under the dash, making sure it's not interfering with your pedals or anything else. Also, keep wires away from your heat ducts. Use zip tie to keep the wire up and out of the way. Run the wire down the side of the center console, tucking it under as you go along if you don't want to remove the console(I didn't). Feed the wire towards the switch blanks beside the e-brake. Using your left hand while you are in the driver's seat, feed the wire to your right hand, which should be in the hole for the brake. After you get the wire into your right hand, carefully pull out about 6 inches to a foot of wire to allow soom room for you to work with.

Now, pop out one of the blanks for the switch. Depending on what type of switch your use, you can drill a hole into the popout and install a switch in the popout or you can use a switch which will fit the hole left by the popout(Acura dealerships don't have any).

Run the wire through the popout hole, connect your wires to the switch, install the switch in the popout or the popout hole, put everything back together.

I've done this twice, once for foglights(stolen) and once for a switch so that I can leave my power antenna down while listening to the cd player(really easy and cheaper than a new antenna).

Solder all your connections properly, use fuseible links, know where you are taking power from and the ramifications of using that power source.
Keep everything neat and clean and out of the way of moving parts. Cover your soldered connections with electrical tape and use grommets and/or wire protector to avoid electrical fires... If this all sound complicated to you, it really isn't. Just take your time and do it right. I have blow many fuses and relays before by rushing and not taking my time to do it right. Have fun, and enjoy working on your car.
