questions about a turbo f22

Can a stock f22 motor (SOHC, vtec) on a 1996 honda, run with a turbo? can the engine actually run fine with no fuck ups, like the engine blowing up? I need to know this bad becuase i am looking to turbo my 96 accord. I have been told that it will barely hold at 7 psi, but if i boar out my engine, forge my pistons and rods, and port and polish that it will hold at 8 psi fine. Cause the t3/t4 drag kit for a 94-97 honda accord turbo comes with 7 to 8 psi. the real question is, if i do the stuff to my engine listed above, will it run fine? Will it run at 8 psi with now problem as long as i dont go higher than that?

Re: questions about a turbo f22

any engine that is boosted will have a tendency to go bad later. only if u have forged rods and pistons and upgraded internals is when the engine can handle more boost.

but running at like 4 psi is fine, but 7+ in the 2.2L engine wont last long...

well if u do forge out the pistons and ish then u will be fine, but 8psi is like 4hp per 1 psi..i think..

id say since thats alot of cash, put it into a h22...sell the turbo drag kit and use that money to fix up the H22...

Re: questions about a turbo f22

Doing all that to your engine could get really expensive. I'd say go with the H22 swap also. I'm not a big fan of having to switch out the whole engine, but if you can do it yourself or get a friend to help you, you'll probably spend less money.

Here's the thing with your upgrades though. If you do the swap, yes, you'll probably lose some of them, but if you get a turbo, you'll lose them also. Your headers and intake won't *I believe* fit the turbo. You should be able to keep from the cat-back on both a swap and a turbo, and if you do the turbo, you'll probably want to replace the fuel rail, pump, and injectors anyway. So you might as well do the swap. If you're going for true performance, you'll want to get a good turbo, external waste gate, blow off valves, intercooler, etc. This can be quite expensive. Hell, depending where you get it, parts alone will cost more than an H22.

Re: questions about a turbo f22

If you're still interested in getting a turbo,ModaCar has a kit for sale that seems to include everything you'd need to get the turbo running. Of course, chances are you'll still need to rebuild parts of your engine to handle it, but if you choose to go this route, post some info on the total cost when you finish.

Here's a link to the Turbo Kit from Modacar:

Re: questions about a turbo f22

Bottom line.. F22 is a dead end road.. f22 is a family car motor.. i went thru one in 4 months.. it isnt made for high Rpm's.. hence the 6200-6400 red line... i turned a bearing on the crankshaft cuz the motor wasnt build to spin that fast on a semi-regular basis.. now h22?? put in what was once honda's 2nd sports car only to the NSX.... redlines at 7500?? i think.. and it was made for more for the racing conditions vs. the f22.. i will tell you this.. you my vtec f22 i got right now will beat a h22.. and if you were to build the f22 it would be just as good.. but way more $$.. get a jdm h22 and run no more then 5 psi... swap out rod, pistons, valves, valve springs.. port and polish would be nice... and a heavy hudy head gasket.. you are good up too about 10 - 14 maybe even up ta 16 psi depending on how well you build the motor .. and you will be pretty fast..

Re: questions about a turbo f22

He said it. You can build up almost any engine to provide good performance, the only question is, how much money do you want to spend?

listen the engine that u want to use is not a good choice for turbo, since it is a f22b egine with vtec, the best for turbo in an accord is the f22a1 nonvtec, this engine has hondas strongest bottom end and will take up to 10 psi of boost in stock form. ive seen it done on alot of accords where i am and my accord is running 14-16 psi daily driver and daily beaten on, but i have entensive engine work done, but i didnt spend alot just did the right research before the project. i have both f22a and f22b accords and the older accord always outperforms the newer ones it just doesnt have the stylin. if u go with the h22 it will put et s at about 14-15.5 with the swap, but i think its a waste when the accord egine can be worked with to push more than any prelude. i say this backing it up with facts of all the past accord projects that i have put out
