Question Basic Exhaust Question

I'm not sure if I understand the parts of the 4th gen exhaust. I think there is the "Y" pipe, the catalytic converter, but then I dont know if there is another pipe running from the catalytic to the resonator or if the resonator and the pipe are one piece, then I believe there is what is called the "B" pipe followed by the muffler. I'm trying to get this right so I can shop to replace my rusty exhaust.

i looked at the bottom of my car and and it shows the B-pope bolted on right after the resonator and those 2 are separate pieces. but i can't tell if the catalytic conv is one piece with the resonator. i'd check with http://www.stillen.com/sportscars_pr...cat=162&Brand=

Ok, from what I understand, it goes...Manifolds, Ypipe,Cat, Bpipe(I'm pretty sure the resonator is part of the B), then the muffler and tip. I'm pretty sure thats how it goes.

Re: Re: Basic Exhaust Question

VQmax95 is right. That's is exactly how it goes. The resonator is part of the B-pipe.

So then your Maxima has the manifold (which obviously cannot be seen from under the car), then comes the Y-pipe which has two catalytic converters (if you have the stock one), then comes the main catalytic converter (yes ANOTHER cat, not a resonator), THEN comes what is known as the B-pipe which includes the resonator (again, IF it is the stock one) and finally the muffler and tip.

i think the b pipe is 2 pipes, one is the resonator which is almost totally straight and the other is the part that forms the "b" shape.

these are the same stillen b pipe/s that were on my 4th gen

no resonator on these

At first I couldn't find the section with the Maxima parts, but then I clicked on the BudgetPerformance logo (main page), then on the Budget Performance page you click on Custom parts in the flaming menu bar and "bingo" you can look at a list of applications and look at pictures of some parts. They have the resonator and the "B" pipe all as one part.

Thanks for the help.

Here is a pic of the Budget B alongside the Stock B pipe. This is the non resonated Pipe from budget. The resonated pipe would look similar to the stock one.

BP, why are there 2 pipes in that pic? I'm pretty sure all that pipe wouldn't fit under the car. Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the B is just one pipe.

Re: Re: Re: Basic Exhaust Question

there were B-pipes for sell on eBay once. it was a separate piece from the resonator. but i donno how much more it would help performance since it makes up such a small section of the exhaust. or does it?

The B-pipe is generally dellivered in two parts for delivery convenience. But it is sold as THE B-pipe (as one item).

As you saw in the previous picture de Budget B-pipe comes as a single part, but the Stillen B-pipe and Warpspeed Performance B-pipe (the one I bought) come in two pieces to be put together during installation.

The stock B-pipe is a one-piece Item.

you put them together end-to-end so they make a lower case "b" shape

Re: Basic Exhaust Question

I have two questions about the pipe in the picture below.

What does it do to the exhaust sound if you use the B pipe without a resonator?

and

What kind of material is that budget pipe made of? It looks pretty shiny in the picture below.

Re: Basic Exhaust Question

The budget pipe is T-304 Stainless steel. I've heard that without a resonator the exhaust has a loud raspy sound. I've also heard that its pretty "ricey" sounding. I'm not really sure because I've got stock exhaust.
