95 G.C. Trans Pan Leak
I have a 95 Grand Cherokee V8 4wd, 110k miles, have maintained it by the book. I've had lots of engine and trans leaks, replaced all major seals and gaskets this year. Still have one unsolved problem, my transmission pan leaks between the gasket and the pan. The gasket's been replaced by three different mechanics, same result, it leaks. This started after a major tune up, thought they might have bent the pan. Took it to the jeep dealership, they said the pan was fine and replaced the gasket. "It still leaks". Anyone been through this, looking for suggestions / solutions.

I can relate. I have a 95 JGC 4X4 (89,000 miles), also meticulously maintained and also have been chasing down a leak for 6 months. I too have replaced the transmission pan gasket as this was leaking also. I am presently interested in stopping a slight oil leak. Its driving me crazy. I've spent countless hours under this thing diagnosing, cleaning and tightening nuts. I finally brought it to dealership (four times). Started with the oil pan gasket, then seal between the oil filter connector and block...next the lifter covers gaskets and every little electrode protuding from block. The only thing left is the gasket between the block and the tranmission (I think its called a main seal). Dealership seems disinterested in solving problem. Everytime I go in they say its not leaking...but thats not what oberve on my garage floor. The vehicle runs like a dream but its just the principle of having oil drops on my garage floor. If anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Have you guys checked the lines coming from the trans cooler? I had a bad leak from these lines this winter when we hit sub-zero weather.
I won't get into my nightmare transmission/transfer case issues but lets just say that $2,500 and 153,000 miles later, I'm satisfied with a slight leak because I'm not putting on the lift again to hear, "I'm not sure we can get all the parts for you transer case because they don't make it anymore". That was at 110,000. Good luck. |

re: leaks
The trans leak is due to type of gasket. Make sure and ask for cork(premium) gasket. otherwise reapir shops go cheap.
On the oil leak, I has FACTORY problem involving exhaust rubbing left front of oil pan. Took 8 years to wear thru. Small pinhole leak from wearing through metal. Might check there. |

try the FRAM gasket(cork). I just replaced mine and it has been fine.

Re: 95 G.C. Trans Pan Leak
Yeah, I see what your talking about now that you metion it. There is a poor seal on top of the rubber gasket between the gasket and block. I'll try a Cork gasket and see if that stops it.
