Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
How difficult is it to replace the Oil pan and trans pan gaskets on a 97 4wd blazer? I have very limited room to work so if there is too much involved I will have to take it to a shop.

Re: Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
A little more info. I pulled out the trans dipstick and the filler tube is rusted as well as the dipstick. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this a sign that there is or has been water in the tranny? I bought the vehicle to use for hunting and short trips but I don't want the tranny to go out on me when I am doing either one. What would it cost to replace the filler tube and flush the tranny out roughly?

Re: Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
atleast flush the trans out completely and change the filter. that will cost about $100 at a shop. if the filler tube and dipstick is rusted, don't drive it unless its right to a repair shop. replacing the trans pan gasket is not too hard but the y-pipe for the exhaust gets in the way. remove all bolts except the ones closest to the engine, just loosen them about half way. let the pan drain then remove it.

Re: Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
If its a 4x4 it will take about 12-14 hours of labor to replace the oil pan gasket. You will have to drop the front axle or pull the engine. I vote for the latter. Its not that difficult just time consuming.
Dont know about the transpan gasket. |

Re: Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
I had my brother inlaw look at my blazer this weekend and we found that the oil leak is coming from the oil cooler lines and not the pan. He also recommended a trans flush. We found a few other issues but for now they are just minor. How hard is it going to be to replace the oil cooler lines?

Re: Oil Pan and Trans pan Gasket replacement
its not fun. the one from the cooler to the oil filter is not hard but the one from the filter to the engine is a pain. you have to jack the engine up a few inches to even get to it.
