Re: First vr4 upgrade

Aftermarket intake and exhaust... Not too expensive and you can feel the gains, especially if you do them both at the same time.

gut the cats, its free and you wont see a gain from an aftermarket exhaust if the cats are still on the car.

Gutting the cat is free. I had test pipe installed. When I pulled my cat I could see through it rather well. I didn't feel any differance with the test pipe with stock exhaust-since the cat wasn't restricting flow very much. It's the rest of the exhaust-- the bends and horrible muffler set up-- I had a custom set up made from the cat back. It is a larger diameter to a flowmaster--- You can feel the differance and it growles like a V8.

Sounds like your cats were already gutted, you deff shouldnt be able to see through them. You will see a gain from an aftermarket exhaust if your cats are gutted, but most people stick with the stock piping size of 3". The stock bends are mandrel so your improved flow came from the muffler and nothing else, unless you went above 3", and if so how big did you go?

Re: First vr4 upgrade

Well- I believe my stock diameter on the exhaust was 2.25 or 2.50. I just had a system made that got rid of all unnessasary bends. But I still have 2.50 till the tips. they are a custom kinda like camaro tips-- they look really good. The flowmaster had one entrance and two exits. The stock muffler location was not the best- I know you agree!!!

no ground effects, body will be stock, with a 99 front end.

the NA is 2.5, the TT is "3"(closer to 2.9)on the cat back, before the cat the TT is 2.5. Unless the 1st gen is different from the second, but I think they are the exact same.
