Question Trouble starting 99 Tacoma

Has anyone ever heard of Having trouble starting the 99 Tacomas. I just picked one up and noticed that sometimes I have to put all 200 lbs of myself on the clutch to get the thing started. I brought it back to the dealership and they told me they've never heard of it, which I think is BS. Any info would help.

In my tacoma it is the same, have to put it to the floor and practally stand on the clutch to get it started.

I have fond that sometimes the two bolts holding the clutch on come a little loose. I think this has someting to do with its ability to trigger the switch.

After tightning it usually resolves the problem until it loosens up again

Do the newer ones have a clutch cancel switch under the driver A/C vent?

Re: Trouble starting 99 Tacoma

were these clutch cancellation buttons created for this very problem? I was told that its purpose was for using it on steep inclines requiring a foot on the brake and gas at the same time. However, I need to use it just about everyday just to start it.

It has come in handy for me, when I run out of gas and need to move the truck another 25 feet to the pump. Push the button, car in gear, move the car w/ the starter.

Be Careful!

Just remember that you should only use the starter to move the truck for 15 seconds at a time. The starter generates heat and needs to cool after continuous use.
The purpose of this gadget is to allow you to continue when traction fails otherwise (tire spinning, etc.)
It has saved me on numerous occasions!
