Headlight Replacement???

I have a 1997 Aurora. The right-side, low beam headlight burned-out. I bought a new one at an auto parts store, but HOW IN THE HECK do I replace it? The owners manual tell me to take out the 2 bolts on the inboard of the headlight. I've done that but something is holding the outboard side in.

Can anyone help me?

I just replaced all my bulbs, so I can help you. As you found out, the two bolts don't really do diddly. You have to reach around behind the back of the low beam bulb to get access to it. There is a small access hole directly behind the bulb. If you do that, it should be a piece of cake. Hope that helps.

yup I just replaced both low beams. Like boy wonder said you just open the hood and reach in behind the bulb finding the wire and connector. turn the connector counter clockwise and pull it out.
Careful replacing the new bulb. Don't touch it with your fingers ...case you didn't know.
That peticular bulb (atleast in my case) was a real pain in the neck to get back in place ...real tight quarters. Just keep fittling with til you get it.

I still wonder, however, how to get that whole light assembly out of there. Now my curiosity is aroused.

Replacing the whole assembly is a bit of a pain, but not near as bad as the dealer told me. They wanted 2 hours labor to do it, I did it in an hour( drivers side). You have to remove the plastic inner fender liner, remove the bolts that hold the front "bumper" on , and drop it down. After that
there are , I think two bolts accessed from the back, and one from the bottom. After all the bolts are out you have to lift the assembly off the locating pin located on the outboard side....

Hey,

I just replaced the low-beam bulb. On the drivers side, you can not replace the bulb without removing the air system. It is about an hour affair, but it is easier than doing it without pulling the air system.

Kevin, I just did my driver's side low beam lamp also. Didin't take an hour though. You have do have to pull the air filter housing and that's a bitch in itself - requires loosening the big air hose at both ends, then releasing the upper housing by unsnapping the two clamps towards the fan. When you get that and the filter out, you have to remove the base. There's a hexhead screw that's visible on the right side (if you're standing against left fender facing across engine compartment). Remove that one. Then there's a much smaller one that you can't see on the left. Took me a few minutes to find this bugger and get the right size hex-driver over it. When you get the base piece out, you've got clear access to the bulb. It's a twist lock assembly. Remove the connector, and a quarter turn counter-clockwise releases the bulb and assembly. A new one was $24 at the dealer. DON'T TOUCH THE BULB when replacing. Any skin oil at all will cause the bulb to fail much quicker. It all goes back together same way. Took me about 20 minutes and I probably saved $100 in labor.

Hey, I read somewhere else that when you change that find one with no angle, it works great. Also unplug before taking out bulb. What a life saver.
