Best performance for the $

Someone i know just bought a 95' GS Eclipse. Its five-speed, got a body kit, wing, wheels, all that good stuff. Its a pretty sharp car. Anyway, he asked me what the best performace part he could buy for the buck. I have no idea because i've never had an eclipse. So i came in here to ask the people that know, any info on the best "bang for the buck" for that car would be appreciated. Thanks

His car is a gs. He doesn't have the turbo unless he forgot to mention it. Get an intake, exhuast, strut bars, new sparks, and short shifter. This could be done for well under $1000

"best bang for the buck" are gsx or tsi. The n/a is not quick or will ever be fast. Sell it and get a turbo. Or tell him to buy a turbo kit.

Re: Best performance for the $

oops sorry...lets see..uhh...im pretty sure Hann has pretty good systems for non turbo charged cars to make them turbo charged. Sure it will cost u around 3,000 bucks but its well worth it. but honestly, GS arn't performance cars, sell it and buy a TSI or GST - GSX.

Re: Best performance for the $

some people that actually pay for their cars and insurance themselves go for the non turbo b/c they are cheaper on both. im not saying that you dont(although it might be possible) but saying to get the tsi/gst/gsx isnt always a possibility. and someone that just bought their car isnt really going to want to hear "sell it and get something else"

word!

I bought my RS because it has a $12,000 stereo system, and a load of other crap that I couldn't have got if I were to even pay more and buy a GST/GSX.

But yeah I'm also looking to upgrade it's performance now.

EclipseRST,

How much did that engine upgrade cost you would you say? I'm a n00bie to cars in general, but willing to learn. I'd like to upgrade the engine components for now and maybe later put on a turbo, but if the engine will be strong enough as it is, I may not even need one.

But $$$ is a strong factor, like so far these are the upgrades that I have done/doing/will do:

AEM V2 intake $190
OBX 10.3mm spark plug wires $46
NGK iridium spark plugs $27
OBX 4-1 headers $200
OBX exhaust $325
front struct bar (came installed)

So thats pretty much it so far, pretty simple stuff I think. But already it's costing me a lot, + I will need about $1,000-1,500 for rims/tires by spring/early summer.

But yeah I was thinking of getting internals like you have, but don't really know how much it costs or how much labor involved.

Also I really don't like how the car handles, that is in turns. Pretty bad in my opinion, I was thinking of going with sway bars for the rear. A guy on ebay has them for the RS + the kit needed for $150 starting price + shipping (that a deal?).

yea you probably will see a nice increase in power with those mods but no more than 50hp i wouldnt think, and as for the internals and turbo setup i have about $4500-5000 into my engine, thats including the money to EPROM my ECU and get DSMlink that i plan to buy next week... well if you have any other questions let me know, i'd be glad to help, good luck

Re: Best performance for the $

Best band-for-buck performance would be to remove the wind-resisting, weight-adding body kit and wing. IMO, anyway.
