Turbo install
I am planning to turbo my d16y8. How hard is it to install? I have alot of experience with engines, but I am just unsure how hard would this be. Would it be better to take it to a shop for the install?
Thanks |

if your pretty knowledgeable with cars, i don't think it should be too hard. the good thing about taking it to a authorized installation shop if your getting a kit would be that if something goes wrong you would still be warrantied, but it is going to cost u.

I just finished my turbo install about a week ago and it wasn't that hard. I ran into some problems but thats just because I was being somewhat careless. It is very simple if you gather up all the info thats needed. I would HIGHLY recommend you do it yourself. That way if something ends up going wrong somewhere down the road, you would have some knowledge on what could be. It will save you tons of money instead of paying some mechanic to find out the problem everytime you run into one.

Yeah, it usually is fuel management problems you run into with a turbo; but you could very easily run into vacuum leaks, clamps coming loose, oil leaks, etc. These very easy to fix problems can be a pain in the a** if you don't know what you're doing.

What would be the estimated time it would take to do the install? A weekend? Just curious so I will know how long my car will sit in the garage.

If it's a complete bolt on and you get a friend to help you out, you'll probably spend 16 hours (give or take an hour or so). But that all depends on whether or not it's a bolt on kit.
