trans temp gauge
I have an '03 5.3L Yukon with the light duty auto and I want to install a trans temp gauge in the cluster. I have read that all it takes is installing a gauge in the cluster. That the sensor and wiring is already there. Has anybody got any info on this and also a part number for the gauge? I do not want to have to change the entire cluster. Thanks.

I have a 2000 Yukon XL and I tow an 8,000lb trailer and would love to have the transmission gauge also. I was at the dealer yesterday getting an oil change, and while waiting decided to get a price on the guage (or so I thought!) The parts guy informs me I need to purchase the entire dash console with all the guages already installed in it! Seems a bit much! Have you received any further info on where you can just get a gauge only, and if so, would it be GM "ready" to install? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
PS. Is it only the 2500 or 3500 Series vehicles that have this gauge as standard, or are there any 1500 series that have them from the factory. I purchased my vehicle 2 years used, and didn't have a choice! |

Re: trans temp gauge
You cannot get a "GM Ready Gauge" because the wiring is behind the gauge clustor.. so you need a new gauge cluster to plug in that has the temp gauge in it.

Re: trans temp gauge
If you're willing to spend a little over $300 or so, you can buy a complete instrument cluster, which comes with the tranny gauge...and depending on your tastes, you can get Denali, Escalade, or Silverado SS-style clusters. The downside is that you'll have to get the odometer reprogrammed...

Re: trans temp gauge
Trans gauge update. I gave up on finding just the gauge, so I purchased a new Denali cluster off of Ebay for $260., disassembled it, unsoldered the gauge servo and an illumination lamp nearby, and installed in my cluster with the mask that has the gauge face. This way I kept my cluster with the odo-hour meter and other memory functions. I plan on selling the new cluster as a normal one. The gauge works as designed.

Re: trans temp gauge
After convincing my dealer that just adding a gauge was all that needed to be done, they agreed to send my cluster to a local authorized repair facility, where they installed the gauge for $200. I took the cluster out, (4 screws) and took it to the gauge shop myself, then picked it up when it was done. I paid the shop through the dealer. No reprogramming necessary. The hardest part was convincing the dealership that it could be done.
