autocross

I'm just getting into autocross with my 98 honda civic lx. So far, i have 15 in. konig heliums and tein superstreet coilovers. im thinking, in the class i will race in I wont need many more mods, maybe just a muffler, but i dont want to get ricey. any suggestions about cold air intakes, exhausts off of type-r, or anything else would be great.

Re: autocross

Which area do you autocross in? BTW, I think this is in the wrong section.

I don't know how your driving skills are, but those will matter more than mod's to your car. Keep your car the way it is, get some pro. training, practice with your car as it sits.

First things I would do:
Tires
Rear sway bar upgrade/lower tie
Brake pads
Front sway poly bushings/end links

When is comes to auto-X, suspension mods will do more for you and moke you quicker than performance mods. But something that boosts midlevel power (which is band you're mostly in whan auto-X'ing) is where you'd want to increase power in.

Re: autocross

http://www.suspension.com/civic.htm - for bushing/endlinks for your stock front sway.

For the rear look into Neuspeed, Eibach, Suspension Techniques, or Comptech. Try to get something adjustable that comes with a lower rear tie or purchase seperately.

Re: Re: autocross

Sway bars and strut tower braces usually go for $100 a piece. I need to get some sway bars as well... Eibach has this full bushing kit for around $120 that replaces every little rubber bushing in your car with stiffer polyurethane ones. I'm sure with that you can feel every little bump on the road though...

Re: Re: Re: autocross

You mean Enery Suspension? I never knew Eibach made bushing kits. The poly bushing kits are a great addition but aren't the nicest thing for street driving. IMO they are one of the hardest things available to install & lots of labor.

That link I posted above has seperate or full bushing kits.

Re: autocross

Skill is more important than suspension mods. My brother beat a 91 Civic hatch with a B16 through a canyon road...driving my mom's stock 97 Corola DX.

I'm running an OEM 22mm Teg Type-R rear swaybar on my '00 DX coupe. Cheaper and thicker than almost any other bar out there, and it's OEM fitment which meants it'll fit better than almost any other bar out there as well. Just make sure to get a subframe reinforcement kit for it, or it'll rip the heck out of the subframe which costs a lot of $$$$ to fix.
