Exclamation V8 Maxima...

I have a 98 Se and I wondered if its possible to put a V8 in there. I know it would be complicated but I would go for it.

Re: V8 Maxima...

Just put the 3.5 engine in, will be much easier. Besides, they're as powerful as many other V8's

Re: V8 Maxima...

depends on which max. i've seen a 2k-2k1 converted to a 6 speed 3.5(on the org). the engine size isn't substanitally bigger. just the bore and stroke of the pistons are larger. i'll bet a 3.5L 4th gen swap isn't as hard as you'd think, but why bother? get Hals turbo kit from custom maxima and a 4th gen'll make 267 WHP at 6-7 psi. a turbo 4th gen would obliterate a 3.5 easily. or you coule try to get a real small 8 cylinder. the V8 out of the lincoln LS is only 3.9 liters but makes i think 285 hp. the drivetrain would be the biggest obstacle. i can't think of any car ever that came with a V8 and was FWD.

Some of the the Northstar Cadillac's are v8 FWD. That's a 4.6 though, and prolly too big for the Max engine bay. Your best bet, if you really wanted to swap, would be look for a 3.5. Or, like bp said, just get a turbo.

really? those cars are like 300hp+. that's craziness. i suppose a heavier engine over the driving wheels provides decent traction.

Forget which year, but the Ford Taurus SHO had a FWD V8.

Don't know the size of it, or the powerout put of it.

But needless to say it's a ford... so it was probably like 135hp.

Yes, it is possible to put a V8 in the Max, I used to have a picture of a Max with a V8 in it but it was of very small displacement and the tq/hp output was no greater than the 3.5, so as mentioned, why bother?

I agree with BP, you'll be doing much better to get Hal's kit and you will be crushing Maximas, Stangs and running even with Camaros.

the 96 or 97+'s had a 3.4 V8 making 230 hp, i shoulda thought of that, but they were doodie, ford shoulda never abandoned the yamaha 6 cylinder. and i checked the caddy's and not only were some of them a FWD NS v8's but most of them were. i had no idea.

not mentioning, any of the handling the Maxima had has gone to shit.

For the drag strip it's fine, but not on the road course

You could always try the Nissans VK45 engine that might work?
