Hi there,
This is my set up: 1) Alpine Monoblock Subwoofer Amp - 200 RMS @ 4 ohms, 350 @ 2 ohms 2) Infinity kappa perfect 10.1 - 10 inch subwoofer, 350 RMS Max power, 94 sensitivity, down to 18hz. 3) Sealed QLOGIC box with .66 internal cubic volume with polyfill This is my question: I just bought and installed this Infinity into the matching Qlogic box, but it does not hit that hard. This sub is supposed to be really high end people tell me, but it does not even shake the windows when played at higher volumes. You can hear the bass, but not feel it. I had an old JBL that "bumped" harder. The reviews on the infinity say its all about sound quality not volume, but the volume is very disappointing. is 200 watts rms enough for a 350 rms max subwoofer? I played with the gains and crossovers, but nothing really helps. at high gain it distorts, at nominal it doesn't bump hard. Also, i have two of these infinities. Is it smart to wire them in paraell and squeeze out 350 watts at 2 ohms? thats 175 watts each sub...not enough is it? Thanks! |

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 Question
I personally have the belief that infinity makes shitty subs. Is this sub a DVC 4 ohm?

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 Question
You definately need more power, and you're right they're SQ woofers, not built to get loud. If you want loud you picked the wrong sub in the wrong size.
I would get a 400x2 amp to push them both, and put them in a ported box tuned low. It might take care of your basshead needs while still retaining some good SQ.

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 Question
.66 cubic feet of internal space plus the driver's displacement, its not gonna be that loud. 1.5 cubic feet ported per sub tuned to 30hz should be much better.
they aren't meant to get loud. if u want car vibrating, windows shaking bass, look into another sub. 2 12's Perfect would have been a better choice in terms of SPL and SQ at higher volumes. build a better box and put some more power to it. not too much. they are prone to being damage due to mechanical failure. this results when u have the box too big, and you're running too much power to it. or simply you don't have an infrasonic filter so the sub goes over it's mech. limits.
