Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
I have a 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1...and I was wondering if powering it with an older American Legacy 2 channel amp that puts out 1600 watts would be ok. I almost guarantee that it isnt powering with the full 1600 watts like it says, not anymore anyway. Right now my brother has it hooked up to 2 15" MTX Thunder 8000s, and its not very loud at all. Its a sealed and divided box, and even when the back seat is down, its not as loud as it should be. Thats what makes me assume that it would be ok to use on this 1400 watt max sub. Not so much the watts, but also if I could wire that to be able to power just one sub. Please let me know everything about it...Im curious.
Also...would a ported box be good? I just want loud bass, and since its a 10" it probably wont hit real low anyway. My other thought would be sealed and polyfilled. |

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
I am guessing that amp maybe puts out 500 watts. Please save us all and get a new amp, remember one thing, NEVER look at the max of a sub or an amp and base ratings on that, always compare the RMS. Ported should be fine, just tune it right.

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
port that box. makes a world of a difference compared to sealed. i would go with 1.8 cubic feet ported tuned to 30hz.

Would this box be really nice? I looked at it and thought it looked damn cool since that was where I was gonna put the port anyway. When I saw that tall rectangle one I thought it was different and interesting.

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
tuning and size matter the most, what are these aspects of it?

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
What is the box tuned to and the box cubic ft? I can't tell bade on w,h,d. I can find the cubic feet, but is that the ported box. You should either make the box yourself or have it done. www.originalcustoms.com is good at making custom 3/4mdf boxes for a low cost, if you will tell them all you want is it made out of MDF board to your specs and tell them 1.8 f^3 and tuned to 30hz. They will give you a quote.

Would that "tunnel" style box most likely give me the highest amount of DBs in the car than any other box...and would it only be able to hit lows and not thumping bass? For a 10" I would think it would still be able to perform nice highs too, but thats just a wild idea...I like the sound of how those work.

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
A wave box will be the loudest with insane lows.

So you would recommend that, if I were to build it myself. QUALITY of course.

I officially have the shittiest setup now. I took my sub and put it in this halfass box my friend made me today, but Im not keeping it in there thats for sure. I have it powered by a 2 channel Pyramid 600 watt. Its not doing shit...and I think its hilarious cause my friend thought it would totally kick some ass. Its maybe putting out alittle more bass than my 6x9s. But if I wire it coming from both channels, will that work much better? I plan to have a much better box, amp, and wiring system soon.

Re: Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1
do you have a specific model # for the amp, or a link or something?
Your sub has dual 4ohm coils, this is best for a mono amp since it can only be wired to 2ohm or 8ohm. Since VERY VERY few 2ch amps are stable at 2ohm bridged, you would have to wire it to 8ohm which would cut the power you're getting in half. A mono amp on the other hand, could run at 2ohm mono all day long.

Also...on my sub, the wire that connects to the cone on the one side of the hookups is loose. If it stays in the right position it seems to work, but sometimes the bass or even just sitting still makes it go out of place and not work again. I think the problem is towards the end of the wire that isnt on the cone side. The plastic on the wire is cracked so it moves easy. Does anybody know what to do for this before it gets worse and I have to pay to get it fixed?
