I've not heard of a car getting to much air volume from the filter. The description sounds more like its getting to much fuel and not enough air.
Sorry I don't have a solution off the top of my head. You may want to ask this over on the 3si site and see if someone there has ran into your situation before.

besides intake; exhaust, stillen downpipe, and of course a boost controler. those are some nice basic gains. i havent got the downpipe yet cause i just don't' feel like taking it off when smog time comes.

I have installed amany K&N FIPK Kits in 3000 GT's And Vr-4's. I have seen this problem only once and it was because the MAS honeycomb material was damaged before installation. However make sure your intake is working properly start your car and pop the hood. Then you can diagnos the problem if it's from the intake. Check the sounds coming from it, a vacuum noise should be coming from the filter. If you hear any whistling or lack of airflow there could be a problem either in your connection or as far up as the intake manifold or also with you make have broken your MAS airflow sensor. I highly doubt your engine is getting to much air that's next to impossible and plus with modern day fuel injectors instead of carbeurators, the amount of fuel injected and burned is all proportional to your air intake. However there is one way your engine can have to much air intake. This is if your fuel injectors are not working properly. It's a V-6 so make sure all 6 injectors are working properly. That's about all the help I can give I hope you fix the problem.
