Home Depot Intake, tubes on the intake, HELP!

Today we were a little bored and decided to start on Mike's home depot intake. We got the couplers and bends and stuff but we noticed that there is like 4 tubes other than the bov recirculation tube that go into the intake. What the hell are they for and are the necessary? The instructions to making the intake that I got (http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79528) told me to put the recirculation tube close to the filter but on stock its by the turbo. Where should I really put the bov recirculation tube? Also the coupler we got to go on turbo is hard, is that ok? I will try to get pictures up as soon as I can.

Keep it in the same thread. You don't need to make a new thread about it. Good luck.

Re: Home Depot Intake, tubes on the intake, HELP!

keep the recirculation tube where it is stock. Mitsu engineers knew what they were doing, why make the air have to travel further?

A hard coupler simply won't work, it wont be able to clamp down, and therefore won't be airtight and the turbo will suck in unfiltered and unmetered air = BIG MISTAKE

also keep in mind that people run 12's with the stock intake tube and a cone filter, the effort might be better put elsewhere

Re: Home Depot Intake, tubes on the intake, HELP!

I only know of 2 other lines, one is for the valve cover breather and charcoal canister/emissions. When I made my home depot intake i chose to keep the breather line and use a fuel filter to keep oil out of it. The other line i left hanging towards the ground. I don't know why but I think i read somewhere on tuners that it was ok to do it.

My Recirculation is about as close to the filter as you can get. I suppose the only reason is to make the BOV louder. Make sure you try to at least angle the recirc. tube towards the turbo.

Yeah, sorry I forgot about the other thread. I was rushed to get my question out and didnt think to use the other one. I know how bad I get irritated when people duplicate their threads, I should have used my head a bit more.

I know a hard intake isnt necessary, its just for fun and to see if we can do it.

Thanks for the info about the hard coupler, I thought there might be a way to seal it off.

I'll hit up tuners and see about those lines, I think I remember reading about them too now that you mention it.

Man I need to get my shit in a neater pile before I just go off on some random sunday afternoon project, thanks for your help guys.

Re: Home Depot Intake, tubes on the intake, HELP!

There is one small nipple for the stock BCS, not needed...

There is one port for the valve cover breather, use a catch can to keep it closed loop, or vent it and deal with the fuel trim change.

There is one port for the charcoal canister, not needed.

None of them are REALLY needed unless you are trying to maintain emissions legality, except for the BOV dump.

The stock intake tube may do 12s, but when I was running high 12s I picked up a solid 60 Hz increase in airflow with a 3" home depot intake. Unfortunately DSMlink was still far from being released yet, so I don't have useful airflow numbers, but 60 hz is significant. For 10 bucks, why not...

After utilizing the highest quality PVC, PVC cement, soft rubber couplers, and state of the art Düc Tapé finishing system, we finally finished it. All we need now is his K&N and valve cover breather which should be here tomorrow. Heres a picture of it, I figured you guys would get a kick out of it.

KJ Intake for 1st gen DSM in Super HYPERformace Chrome.

Thanks for everyones help, I really appreciate it and I will post a picture of it in the car.

One last question... anyone want one?
