Thumbs up Radar Detectors

In my recent transfer from an 87 1.6 lter DOCH teg with 266K miles on it, to my 95 GSR teg, I have observed my self going a weeee bit over the speed limit with out noticing it, maybe this is because my new car actually has a quite stock exhaust unlike my old car which was runnin on headers only after the aftermarket muffler and coffee can fell off lol. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good radar detecter, I could care less about all the little bells and whistles, all i need it to do is point out the cops a little earlier that i can see. thanks for your help.

I had one for awhile and never got a ticket, I havent had it since march though, and once again, (knock on wood) I have never gotten a ticket, a speeding ticket that is... . Anyways, cobra has some good ones out there. They really wont point the cops out. I've driven past MANY cops without even a chirp. There radar needs to be on, and now they just point and click. It mainly detected those pesky motorcycle cops, but usually they werent too far away... Its nice too have, but can be misleading...

Yea they have started doin that peskey point and shoot shit, but my travel will mainly be on the highway, so i just need to know when theres a damn state trooper sittin on the highway, i have had one get me from quit a distance off so i couldnt see his parkin lights, cause in our state they have to have those on at night, so i just look for the orange glow, but sometimes they hide. damn cops.

Well

If your like most people you dont want to go spend 300+ on a valentine

So i suggest a 100 dollar Cobra or Whistler off ebay. They get the job done. Good enough.

HELL NO!
dont buy nothing but a valentine One or the new passport SRX. valentine one cost $400 (dont buy off ebay, buy direct from manufactuere because ebay sells them for the same price haha!) picks up radar alittle better then the SRX which cost $700 but the SRX blocks laser and you would virtually be unseen by all cops. The valentine one also shows what direction the cop is at and has better performance on radar then the SRX which has to be custom installed in the car because sensors are put around your bumper. These radars are worth way more then their price, i would know because i have a $400 ticket i have to pay by febuary 1st. I heard of a guy who uses both radars together and that is the best pertection you can get.

NEVER buy a wal*mart radar because they do more harm then good. they will almost never find a cop in enough time for you to fight back and when a cop sees it he is certain to give you a ticket. these two are the only radars worth looking at.

Re: Radar Detectors

Funny how it works, the same guy who invented radar for the police invented the first "Fuzz Buster" then he redid the police radar so the fuzz buster wouldnt pick it up, so he redid the radar dector so it could find the cops, (Fuzz Buster II). It has been going back and fourth every since. You buy one and it wont be long til they come out with radar it cant find. Dont forget a little thing the cops also have called VASS Car there is nothing to detect it. Now you decide which one to get, if any.

Not everyone has 400 for a radar. I suggest a 100 dollar whistler or cobra, it will detect cops. its better than nothing ill tell you that much.

yea that 400 or 700$$ one would be great, but i cant even afford any mods right now, much less that much for a radar detecter, im good at spottin them with my eyes, i just hate the peskey ones that hide.

I know what you mean. I can pick them up too, even at night. Ive even developed almost a 6th sense. One time I was in the fast lane and some car came up on my ass fast. Almost any other time Id have just floored it and taken off(not racing, but I like to get places fast), but this time I didnt. The guy ended up being a CHP. There are other events too. But I think Im just lucky, so far atleast.

Yea thats how i am, i have gotten very good at just feelin that a cop is around, then again there have a been a few times i havnt, like the ones that sit in a parkin lot off the side of the highway doing there best to hide, they are the pain in my ass. i will prolly just end up gettin a walmart type one, for about a 100, but i was just seein if there was any others that people had experience with that were cheap and worked somewhat well.

You dont have to go to walmart... I got a decent cobra at circuit city, but why even buy at walmart when you can get one cheaper and new of of ebay.

You probably want the one I have. On some site out their its considered #9 out of all radars. so thats not bad for 100 or so. it is... BTW, Amazon sells it for 200 which is the retail price. yet ebay has wholesalers selling them at wholesale price.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=39768

(this is not my auction for anyone who thinks i might be trying to sell stuff on the forum)

Thats the radar i got, its pretty good. It will get you by. Its not good for Laser, yet none of them are. I detect about a 1/4 mile away on average. pretty damn good especially on highways. Because theres no way to pin point someone in a small crowd on a highway till they get close. Dont even listen to the guys telling you to buy the valentine. it is a really good detector. yet if your like most people. You cant justify to spend 400 dollars on a box that beeps. ya know?

haha yall luck ant ganna last long. i used to be the same way, i though i had a 6ht sence because everytime i saw a cop i wasn't speeding and then i got stuck with two speeding fines. one costing me $150 and the other $450. lucky thank god there are no points on my licence and my record it still clean.

after you use the Valentine one you will clearly see its value and that $400 is nothing for such a good radar. unlike yall im not ganna be a cheap ass and try to get by with a shity wal*mart (curcit city, best buy, ext.) radar and think it will help. TRUST ME GET A V1 OR YOULL REGRET IT LATER. theres no way you can be a car enthusiest and a cheap ass ricer at the same time.

Or you could just go the speed limit.... and not worry about a radar detector, then you could use that money for an education.

Well 94 GSR, you obviously arnt in college with out a job and is barely scraping money to buy christmas gifts this year, and this has nothing to do with being a rice or a car enthusiast, nothing at all. I have been a car enthusiast all my life, hondas are what i chose because they are cheap to run, insure, and are fun. thank you chris for your advice, that whistler looks like it will suite me just fine. and as for you 94 GSR, either get the 6th sense or learn how to talk to cops. I have been pulled over multiple times atleast 12+ and ive never had a ticket stick to my record, much less actually been given one, and i never had to pay for one, only 30 bucks for court fees ONCE. and usually, i try and obey the speed limit, but if you read my first post you would understand what i mean. thank you
