Question Squeeling In first 3 Gears

I just bought a 1988 Saab 900 S, it has 117,000 Miles and seems to be in pretty good shape, but I have noticed that when in the First 3 Gears it squeels (except when clutch is applied) Sometimes in 3rd gear I can stop this by pressing clutch for a second then releasing when the squeel goes away, or I can just shift up to 4th to get rid of it. I remember the guy mentioned something about a problem with a belt in the car, but I dont remember if this is what he was talking about, or if its unrelated. Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how it can be fixed?

Thanks!

Dave

Re: Squeeling In first 3 Gears

I am not sure, but in my previous car, a 94 9000CD, there was a little squeeling noise sometimes, during the last 6 months of my ownership. The problem was something with the clutch or gearbox I think...
