Loud raddling noise in first gear...

Yet another problem with my car that I'm trying to get fixed...

Towards the end of first gear (after about 3k rpms) and early into second gear my car starts making this loud raddling noise...its very annoying!

It has always done it since I bought it but it seems like it just got louder or something..and it does it more often now... (sometimes it doesn't do it at all). And it doesn't make this noise in 3rd, 4th, or 5th..just 1st and occasionally 2nd...

A mechanic told me it was a throwout bearing making the noise...if this is it..how do I fix it? Do I have to get all down & dirty with my clutch?

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

If it's the throwout bearing, then yes it will require getting "all down and dirty" with your transmission to reach the pressure plate which will then allow you to get "all down and dirty" with your cluth. Have fun if that's the problem(You may want someone else to do it).

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

hey kinked i have a 1994 civic and had the same problem i think does it do it when you stop and going slow? If that is the case then it is your heat shield clamp the thing u have to do is buy a new metal band or clamp and clamp it back on to the frame

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

You can only hear it when the clutch is engaged when I'm stopped...and at the end of first gear.

I took my heat shield off so I don't think thats it...also I had another mechanic look at it..he said it was a bad throwout bearing as well...he said its a bitch to replace... :/

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

i can't reassure you that it's the throwout bearing, but if it is you can count on paying about $400 to get a mechanic to do it. But, if you can successfully unbolt your tranny and remove the clutch, flywheel and pressure plate, you can replace the throwout bearing yourself. And it'll save you a few $100.

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

if i pay that much to get my clutch taken out..im gonna replace it with a stage2 >: )

if i get a whole new clutch (mine is pretty worn out anyway) do i still have to replace the throwout bearing? and how much do u think it would cost for an entire clutch replacement (just to replace..assuming i have the clutch)

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

you don't necessarily have to replace the throwout bearing, but you might as well while everything is apart. Kinda like how it's kinda stupid to just replace 1 spark plug, you might as well replace them all. I would plan on spending about 400-600 depending on the cost of parts.

Re: Loud raddling noise in first gear...

Why wouldn't you replace the throwout bearing, if that's what the problem very well could be....? Your clutch kit should come with a new throwout bearing anyway, so yeah I'd go ahead and change it......If I were you.
