Question MID 70's

Anyone know much about mid 70's trans ams? I really like they're look. Could a 455 be put into any of them (i really like around 76)? WHat kind of quarter times do they run? I'm trying to decide what to blow my extra money on 69 gto, 76 trans am, or just make my 98 gp fast. I'd really like some feed back on this I'm torn on what to do. I've already done a few small things to my gp under $1000 worth so its no big deal.

Re: MID 70's

The 455 will easily fit into all 70-81 Firebirds, and that or the 400 is a great though costly means of performance. Quarter mile times will vary so much i cant even guess, all depends on the entire setup, but they are great, easy cars to work on, I will never not have a 2nd gen Firebird

Re: MID 70's

Do you have any idea what a stock 76 does with street tires? Would 11's be realistic with wieght reductions, slicks, and obvious engine and tranny work without a ton of money?

As you can see, stock 15.9 is not that impressive, however Car Craft did a test on a 455, they changed the heads, carb, intake, headers and camshaft and went from like 240hp to around 600, so you can see this motors potential, however Pontiac motors are expensive to get parts for. 11's are not out of the question at all, but traction becomes an issue very quickly. If you can get one with a Posi-traction rear end you'd be ahead of the game. Where are you located?

Re: MID 70's

Just curious, if you were anywhere near me I could recommend a couple of good places to get parts and work done on the car.

Re: MID 70's

I own a 76 firebird esprit, originally came with a 400, i put lower gears+posi on it, and a new carb and ran a 15.3, of coarse i also stripped all the emissions equiptment off it too.

now its got a 68 428 in it, and i havent gotten a chance to race it yet.
