Re: MAC Intake

I have the MAC cold air kit on my 89. Pretty expensive for not getting much of any performance out of it. I bought it for mainly it's looks. As for mufflers, I would say Dynomax or MagnaFlows, I'm not a real fan of Dronemasters.

Re: MAC Intake

I used to have a couple stangs, looking to get one... But my 90 had 3 chamber flows and I liked them, alot. At least until I had my second 90 7Up Edition Mustang that had Dynomax muffs on them. Those had great tone and I felt it was better. The Dynomax are flow through where the Flowmasters are baffle style... I now am a dynomax-guy!

Just my $.02

Ben

yes, bbk has better intakes.
bbk also has a new X pipe which is pretty good.
Mufflers are either magnaflow or dynamax.

Re: MAC Intake

MAC and BBK intakes are pretty much exactly the same. Just the BBK one has a plate that says "BBK" on it. This is not a guess, but rather first hand knowledge, since I have worked with both CAI. Saying one is better then the other is just plain ignorant.

Mac and BBK make the same dam parts and sell they for the same price overall. There is really no difference between any of thier parts they both produce.

Not sure if they are made for the 98 but i have a densecharger inatke on my 02, and like it better than the others. If you want looks the nice chrome intakes are good, but the densecrahger is a high impact PVC which keeps out alot of the heat from the engine, y get cold air if on the way to the engine it is gogin to be superheated by chrome pipes, unless u want the looks. Exhaust magnaflow and borla are great, i went with an SLP yes the people that make the camero and trans am exhaust, but the sound and power is great. Flowmaster and MAC is ok but for the extra money on a Magnaflow Borla or SLP is worth it.

02 GT 5/spd
Densecharger cold air with K&N
SLP loud mouth exhaust
SLP X pipe with cats
C&L upper intake
75MM BBK TB
Autolodig custom burned chip

I like Densecharger but if the amount of heat change of the air going through a plastic pipe over metal is so negligible it doesn't matter. As far as SLP I would rather have stock mufflers. SLP can suck my pony driving dick!

Re: Re: Re: MAC Intake

The MAC comes with a high flow washable filter as well. No info on why SLP sucks, it's just a personal opinion. There was a thread not too long back where we discused this issue of SLP, a few GM guys even gave their opinions too.

Re: MAC Intake

Any cold air intake that A) fails to pull from the fenderwell and B) fails to keep air at at least AMBIENT temperature is not worth buying. Since both the MAC and BBK are short ram intakes that pull from the engine bay and are chrome and conduct heat from the engine bay, making the Cold air intake moniker simply trendy. Don't waste your time; if you want a truely performance oriented intake, go for a KN intake, with plastic housing and relatively straight path, they offer the most advantage over stock.
