Lotus V8 or Viper GTS

Lotus V8 or Ferrari F355

Lotus V8: Sure, it's got less power, but make up for that with wonderful handling and a more neutral weight balance. A few modifications to the Turbos and you've got a viper killer.

Ferrari 355: Performance between the two is comparable, but I take the Ferrari for a few Reasons...
1. Style. To me, it blows the Lotus away (and with a car as gorgeous as the Lotus, that's hard to do!)
2. That sweet, sweet distinctive ferrari sound. Nobody does rip and snort like Ferrari
3. NA. The Lotus has a TT setup, and still doesn't manage the hp/L that the 355 does. Doesn't matter in overall performance, of course not. But it does add to my satisfaction.

Ferrari F50: This isn't even a debate, in my opinion. The comparison is between a street legal F1 car and a high performance Street car. The straight line performance is near identical, but once you factor turns into the equation, the Ferrari blows it away. A gut-wrenching lateral acceleration and a much higher redline are enough to do it for me. The Ferrari's superb aerodynamics aid in my choice as well. The only downfalls are that enormouns price tag and that high compression....a speed bump in Turbo application.

I'd take the Viper GTS, the Ferrari 355, and the Ferrari F50.

Although that's true, in most other situations I'm a Lotus guy. The hang up for me comes that performance is so close that I have to base decisions on things like look and stuff.

It's too bad they aren't competitors throughout the market, but I don't see Ferrari ever making a 4-cyl to compete with the Elise...thankfully. Just not their style.

I think we both agree on the Esprit vs. Viper though, right?

Lotus V8 (almost as fast, better handling, more exotic, just awesome)
Lotus V8 (faster then the 355, cheaper. Yes, it has half the cylinders, but the 355 will be staring at there exhaust pipes, still love the 355, though)
F50, no question. Race car for the street vs. supercar. F50 faster, corners harder, sexier, just plain awesome.

Well, believe it or not, the 355 is not a 16 cylinder car. It's true.

And, the Esprit has slightly better 0-60 acceleration, but they're equal in the quarter mile and the 355 tops out higher. So, "faster" should be "quicker" or "better accelerating".

And, the 355 is lighter, puts out more horsepower, and does it all NA (not that it means anything).

Yeah, I realized the Lotus had a V8 about 10 minutes after I wrote that, not 4 like they did in the 96 or older cars. I was off the internet, and didn't bother changing it. Ops. Yeah, I hadn't thought of the quarter. 0-60 is when you get the most g-force, so it is where you get the real sense of speed in your spine, not just your other senses (meaning you know when your going 200mph, even in racing sims its scary. But at 200 mph, the spine-compression is over) And top speed, well I don't live in Germany, so its almost useless. Oh well, good to know you are a good moderator. Keep up the good work!

Plus, for a road car acceleration is way better than top speed, IMO. And, think of the fun you could have with those Turbo's in the Lotus! Tough choice.

I would choose the Lotus . . .

I've always felt it has (since the 4cyl model) a near perfect balance of form and function . . . and it seems to be a little less common than other exotics at least from what my eyes tell me . . .

I don't remember any performance specifics to backup my decision but I don't even care . . . the Lotus is my personal object of desire, and no amount of horsepower will sway me . . .

Before it's all over I WILL own a Lotus Esprit V8

Don't worry, the Lotus goes 0-60 in 4.1 seconds, thats .1 seconds slower than a viper with a 100hp advantage. Top speed, if i can remember, is about 170mph. Only 200 or so are made a year (that may be the ones shipped to North America, I'm not sure right now.) Super-duper-super car.:sun:

I believe that the 200 number for lotus esprits is the North American ones. They produce more than that overall, I'm pretty sure.
