Check engine light

Check Engine light comes up every once in a while when i am driving on the highway. not all the time once in a while and it stays on till i shut off the engine.all the fluid levels look fine.
sometimes it doesnt come on at all..
There is no powerloss or rough driving. what do you guys think might be the problem and how to get rid of it.

Some kind of clicking sounds comes from the engine once in a while till the engine warms up.

any help is appreciated

thanks

Re: Check engine light

You should check for engine codes. If you have shop manual for your vehicle. If you have dodge you can cycle the key on then off About 8 or 9 times then leave in the on postion you will see a light flashing on your dash count the flashes NOTE you will see pauses in the flashes write down the codes look in manual for that code it should tell you whats wrong. Or take in have a mechanic use a code reader Or you could by your own reader for about $30

Re: Check engine light

The Idle speed motor circuits. Could mean T.P.S.Which is a trottle postion sensor and if it has an intermittent problem will cause the check engine light to come on. Try unhooking the battery for about 1/2 hour these might be old codes this should erase the codes. hook it back up drive and see if the light comes on. if it does check the codes again see if they are the same . Good luck.
