more power in the 5sfe
ihave read most of you guys post and you give a lot of good info on performance. my question is how can i get the most out of 5sfe. i have a 92 gt convertible and i want to beef it up a little.its a pretty good engine but i feel it not putting that power to the wheels. any information would help out a lot guys.
thanks. |

well if you want to keep teh same engine u may look in to swapping the head (which may be expensive to my understanding but i dont have ne numbers...) and then putting maybe just a small ct26 or ct20b turbo on it... ct26's run for about $500 n ct20b $800 (assuming their in good condition) take note that if you dont get a turbo then u will actually be slower knowing that you are going from a 2.2l to a 2.0l engine...
if you dont want to go through all of that than just do some regular bolt on mods... exhaust, intake, ecu, etc..... but the real power is above |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
ghetto,
What are you talking about? Why would he lose .2 liter from switching to another head? And what good is a ct26 going to do him without a lot more supporting mods?? Scoot GT, Welcome to the list. A lot of folks here will quickly tell you to do an engine swap. How original. A good start a making your 5S-FE a little quicker is to get a nice exhaust and intake like ghetto said. But getting a different head and putting on a ct26 or ct20b is a half-assed answer. There's much more to it. And that's if you wish to even to any of that. It seems like you asked about the 5S-FE. Check out the MR2 message board. http://www.board.mr2faq.com Look in the 90-99 NA dept. As it's the same 5S-FE that you have. A lot of good reading material. Best of Luck, Chris |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
think about it.
does the head contain pistons? pistons are in relation to bore or displacement. ![]() when someone gets a stroker kit, what do they get? crank, pistons, rods, etc... bottom end stuff. the head is on the top. ![]() later, Chris |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
no problem scoot_gt.
If you can, build a box to surround the intake. This will eliminate any hot air from the engine bay from reaching the filter. I have some links on my site if you need help with the design. You can also get a performance header to replace the manifold you have now. Add that to an aftermarket exhaust, and you will be breathing easier. (the engine) ![]() I'm assuming the MR2 trans question was regarding a possible engine swap. It will work, along with the manual trans from the V6 Camry. Best of Luck CHris http://way.to/celica.gtfour (go to links or tech info for the box) |

you really know your stuff
the question about the trans i asked wrong i dont want to swap the engine so i was looking for a trans that would fit the 5s-fe one that feed more power to the wheels. and also not sure if i want to put a turbo but if i did will the mr2 turbo be a good idea. |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
thanks, I try.
![]() What wrong with the trans you have now? Auto? The MR2 trans will work in a FWD application, you just have to modify the shifter linkage a little bit. Best Regards, CHris ST185 PA http://way.to/celica.gtfour |

well firtof all it auto
but it could be something else but to me it feels restrictive but then again i havent driven a four cylinder in a long time so it my just be that. it feels as thought it has the power but its not getting down to the wheels. i just brought the car and like i said it may need to have the drive shafts replaced or somthing of that nature. but thanks. |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
Change the fluid. If you're boots on the axles aren't ripped, and you aren't hearing any funny noises when turning, you're probly okay.

I also have a celica gt, also with auto, and am feeling the same thing... Engine feels good, but not much kick from the wheels. I AM hearing funny noises when I turn--Kind of a whining sound. My cv boots were recently replaced though. Any ideas what this could be? Also, under low throttle, I hear this kind of rattling noise from up front. I am completely dumbfounded as to what that might be. Doesn't happen when car's in neutral.
I get the impression that the 5sfe isn't really the engine of choice for modding... What are the best (/cheapest) alternatives? Thanks in advance for your input |

Re: more power in the 5sfe
people on these threads are noobs. a ct26 on a 5sfe will give u like 80 wheel hp. i think that is a mod that is worht it, considering that u can get a whole kit for liek 1200 if u know what to look for
lol put a box around ur air filter, thats stock putting a ge, gte head on a 5s is a pain in the ass, which i dont knwo much about, i just know its a pain |
