driving like grandma

1) how conservative to do you have to be when breaking in a WRX? If you pushed 5000 a few times by accident or accelerate quickly up to 4000, will that mess up the engine?

2) after stepping on the clutch while accelerating quickly, the engine seems to rev a little...to a lot. is that okay? Or should I always make sure the foot is *completely* off the gas before stepping on the clutch... versus stepping on the clutch while releasing the gas pedal?

You should be able to clutch without any increase on your tach. Is this your first manual car?

And a few 5000s should be fine, but you really should be conservative. Pretend like it's 100hp weaker in this period.

Gotcha thanks. Drove a jeep that was manual, and a 85 carrera a while ago. I live in SF and parrallel parked on a hill and drove in christmas traffic on a steep hill. I thought someone was smoking in my car and then I realized it was my clutch. So disgusted with my driving skills. I suppose I should always use the handbrake when starting on a steep hill.
