98 Stereo Problems...

My sister has a 98 Grand Am SE with a factory CD Player stereo system. The display in the cd player recently konked out and nothing shows up on it. The stereo will still come on, but no light comes from it, nor does the clock show up when it's turned off. It's just completely blank. What can I do to fix this, anyone know?

Re: 98 Stereo Problems...

You need to take your radio to a dealer or a radio repair shop to get fixed.

Thanks for your help. I will tell her that she needs to run it up to the dealership sometime soon. Do you think that it would cost much to have this fixed? Anyway, thanks again.

Your problem is pass loc , if you own the car you are entitled to know your unlock code. GM will try to charge you 30 dollars to get the code. Dont pay , they have to give you the code upon request , thats what i did. This will work.

Re: 98 Stereo Problems...

Pass lock has nothing to do with the radios in the 96-98 models. In these models the pass lock only shuts off the fuel supply if someone jams a screwdriver in the ignition to start it.

Re: 98 Stereo Problems...

Pass loc sterios are in 96-present grand ams and if youve disconnected your battery or flashed your car it will not let you use your sterio untill you enter the code. I dont know if Im totally right , but I think its a possability. If the display is broken you might as well buy a new one. $50 US and you can have the 7band EQ cd/casette sterio i have , fits in 96-present GA's.

Re: 98 Stereo Problems...

If you need a radio unlocked, i will do it for free. I like the way how he uses the phrase "THEY provide instructions and unlock codes," when by the link you can tell that it is him charging. He is just trying to screw you out of $20. Also FYI most dealers will do it for free.

The dealership does not have to give you your unlock code! Considering that the unlock code was entered and armed by the owner not GM! Some dealers will do this for free and others will charge for it. If it comes in the shop and a tech has to do it you bet there will be a charge.

And it is called Theft Lock!

Re: 98 Stereo Problems...

Haha, i just noticed that every post unlocker03 posted was trying to get people to go to his site. If i make a thread on how to remove the theftlock will someone make it sticky so he stops and everyone can save their $20?
