saw a guy trying to kill himself.

(Ya know Brighton Marina - Tanaraki?)
He was looking over the cliff holding himself. (ie arms wraped around himself) above the City's Marina. There was also 4 policemen 2 where staring at him and the other two were by the car. I dunno what happened but he looked like he'd flipped. Not sure if he would have jumped. Don't think he did. Like to think he didn't.

I Have never seen such a tragic event.
I have no idea what to think, its all a bit wierd.

he looked like he was nuts. Holding yourself isn't something a sane person would do. Although would a sane person try to kill themselves

I know the spot well.If you were 100% committed to killing yourself,there are better places to do it without attracting attention to yourself.If it was a sincere attempt at suicide,he would have simply climbed over the safety fence and stepped over the edge.A person can believe that they want to die to the extent that they set themself up for it,only to have their natural instinct for self-preservation kick in at the very last moment.

Such situations are extremely dangerous,both for victim and rescuer.the victim is in a very confused and disoriented state,and a rescuer sometimes has to risk their own safety to bring the victim back safely.Here's hoping that nobody got hurt,and this poor soul is getting the kind of support that was clearly missing from his life.

Damn, it always sucks when people take the radical way out, instead of trying to get some damned help, suicide is pointless and stupid, expecially considering the constant resources taht are beign put towards it's prevention in this day and age

Glad to see that you have faith in the health system,Moss.True,there are a lot of good people in the mental health care field that truly want to help,but a lot of the more established staff still run to the 'lock'em up and shock'em up' mentality.

As for the resources,like most hospital departments,mental health is chronically underfunded.And unlike ,say,the cancer ward or the childrens' ward,it's very hard to persuade the public to dip into their pockets to help.

Let's not derail this already. Just because you dont like him doesnt mean you have to flame and get the thread closed for everyone else.

I wonder how things would turn out if the people who are about to commit suicide knew the kind of pain the were about to inflict on the people who care about them. But then again, I suppose it's that thought that no one cares at all. Just another one of those times where it can be said that if you know someone who you think is depressed to the point of suicide, help them out; sometimes being a friend is all it takes.

i think they have a pretty good idea. i would say at least 90% of the people who go thru with it did it as a form of revenge.
