Question PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

Hey there ppl. I'm planning to Paint my car this summer.. I don't wanna spend Lots of money so I decided to do it myself!

As far as I ve search... I haven' t seen info on Paintbrush or Spray can Painting..

If u guys got some techniques or if u could tell me wich one of those sollutions is the best.

And btw.. how many coat of paint, and clear? and how many sanding?

And for the ones who cares.. I got a 2002 civic.. Color sux on it.. I plan to make it orange or something.

have you thought of airbrushing,i think it'd cost a bit more but give a better result, personally i prefer a "clean look with a single colour and maby a "splash" of carbon fibre on the bonnet (or hood for u Americans)

Paintbrush or spray can? Well the answer is simple, DON'T DO IT! You have a 2002 Civic, and if you try to paint it with either of those you're going to ruin it. Save your money up and go get it painted professionally.

Cool

Point is, I don t have any equipment for Air painting... and no place to do it... I was planning to paint it inside my parents garage.
ANd I'm painting it cuz there is like 1k scratch from rocks on the hood.. wich makes tons of white spots...

And i've heard ppl did paint their car by brush... and they said it didn t came out too bad. Just wondering if any of u guys got experience with that, and wich product should I use

DUDE DON"T DO IT!!! it will look like crap whatever you do. DO NOT touch your car with a paintbrush or i will come and personlly kick your ass. I am very very good with spray paint and I still can't get a hood to turn out perfect like a pro would. theres just no way to do it, you need a constant air supply to make it work perfect. if you do it was a spray paint can it will be wavy and shitty looking... it doesn't matter if you buy $20 dollar paint. it still won't work. auto spray paint cans are for doing little touch up jobs on 15 year old cars. not ones that are a year old! If your set on paint though, look into automotive paint guns powered by air compressors. You can get very cheep ones for $100 dollars that still will not look near as good as a pro gun, but it will turn out much much better than with a spray paint can... or a brush!!!

Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

I can't believe people are dumb enough to use a paint brush. I wouldn't even use a spray can on my worst enemy's care especially if it was a year old.

Well here is MY point... Modeling is all about being Original and Unique.. Isn't it?
THen... I wanna be the first guy who paints his 1 and a half year old car with a brush... NO need to put 5k $ on it ... Ppl will remark it.. won t they?
ANd I really don't care if it s not gonna look professional.. that s why i went for the brush Unique Style.

Now my questions haven't been answered yet ;-) WHat Kind of Paint to use.. and what DO i put on it to Protect it after.. so the Cool lookin Brush style Stay. I'll get some pics in here when the projects starts.

A brush will leave streaks and be uneven.. Haven't you ever painted something like it elementary school? Brushes leave streaks and drips. NOT something you'd want on your car.

dude first off they dont make paint that you can just brush on a car. it wont stick, itll leave streaks, not 'cool' ones, just streaks. secondly, after you get a shitty ass coat of streaky paint on your car, protecting it with something wont matter because the paint+what ever you 'protect' it with are just gonna flake off in the first rain. plus all those chips on your hood will still be there theyll just be colored, youll simply see indentions in your hood. if you want to cover those up get a car bra or something.

automotive companies make paint and products for a reason, theres processes for these things. i just got done painting my civic, a 95...not a 2002 and i was still scared to do it. to be completely honest with you, i did my paintjob myself for well under $500, probably more like $400. but i did know someone with a spraying booth. which it isnt too hard to find someone. its just gonna take you more work and a better result. i think you just need someone to sit down with you and talk to you about what goes into this. just dont spray can or brush your car, itll be a misake...

Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

Well i painted my stunt bike with spray cans. You can purchase gloss and clear. It worked fine on my stunt bike, but that get sratched and dented like mad. I wouldnt recomned it on a car, but it can be done. It didnt look that bad

I can't believe someone is dumb enough to ask this, let alone conisder doing it. Someone should take that car away from him, he's gonna ruin a perfectly good 1 year old car by doing this. And it will cost a hell of a lot to fix....dumb idea, just dumb...and bad....if you want to paint it yourself, hook up with someone that knows how, get the PROPER EQUIPMENT and the PROPER PAINT. But for the love of god.....a spray can??? A PAINT BRUSH???? Awful idea....dumb, just dumb. Remember, you get what you pay for...it's well worth investing in a compressor and a paint gun at the very least if you are serious about painting it yourself, but drop that awful idea of a spray can or brush to paint the whole car....horrible...just horrible...

Re: PaintBrush or SPray Cans??

You might as well just pee on it, I mean that's original and will cost you next to nothing, and that's the whole point right?

Now if you're really short on cash, and HAVE to have a paint job, just go to Maaco, or another shitty paint shop. They'll do a MUCH better job than you with a spray can or paint brush, while staying "affordable".

You know, that's true about sending him to a shitty place like Maaco if he HAS to have a new paint job. Not a great paint job, but cheap and much much better than he will do with a can or a brush. It will definatly turn out better than if he did it himself....still, it's sad when you have to suggest Maaco to someone because it will give them a BETTER paint job, lol.
