Weird Engine noise

Hey this is my first post. Anyway does anyone know what is causing engine noise like this? I dunno if it is normal or if everyone else's 5th gen accord does this but it sounds like the car is being underpowered or something. It happens in the low RPMs like between idle and 3000. Is that noise normal or is there something wrong? My ma has the same kind of car and it does the same. By the way the car is a 5th gen 94 accord.

c'mon nobodies 5th gen accord makes any other sound than the engine itself. I think the sound it coming from the engine but it doesnt sound like an ordinary engine sound. I just need to hear something like... "that sound is normal cuz all 5th gen accords make that sound" or "that sound isnt right... might be a motor mount that is worn out" or something like that. Help me out peeps!

Welcome to AF - noises are hard enough to fix without hearing, even harder without a description.

Is it a metal on metal sound, clicking, tapping, scrapping, rubbing, whining, etc. noise? Does it matter of the engine temp - cold or hot?

When was the last time the valves were adjusted?(4 cylinder)

It could be a loose exhaust heatshield, you can check those when the engine is cool.

In order for us to help you, you must give us something to work with.

When I worked for Honda we a list of over 200 things describing noises so customer's could assit us. You get my drift? There could be thousands of parts making noise.

Try to explain exactly what you hear.

hmm... ok. it kinda sounds like maybe something is vibrating like the motor or could be the heat shield. i could look into fixing that myself but yea it kind sounds like a vibration and a little tiny bit of minor whining. The sounds pretty much happens all the time in the idle-3000 RPM range whether it is hot or cold. To me it sounds like the car is being underpowered during that moment but kinda hard to tell if it is or not. If anybody has a 94-97 accord (i guess) and has this sound coming out then im gonna assume it is just normal. thanx ppl!

Re: Weird Engine noise

Ok is it a 4-banger or V6?

Sounds like a vibration of feels?

The engine doesn't really make power below 3,000RPM's

It sounds like a vibration but i dont feel it. It is a 4 cylinder. i dont think it is being underpowered. It just makes a sound like that (vibrating and underpowered sound) and i dont kno what it is. My dads RAV4 makes a similar sound so im guessing it is just a 4 cylinder thing. But then again my truck is 4 cylinders and it doesnt make that sound. WTF could that sound be!!!???

here's your answer....it's the exhaust system. My 94 accord had the same problem at 1900 rpm...it took me 5 years to figure it out...more specifically, it's where the resonator attaches to the manifold...nothing to worry about, but it gets louder once the vibration makes a hole...hope that helps. lots of hondas have the same problem. i hear them coming from miles around now...

Re: Weird Engine noise

You have made quite simply the worst posts possible for someone trying to help you. I own a 5th Gen Accord and my engine is making strange noises also, but I can't possibly tell you whether it is the same as yours or not. We don't have telepathy, you need to be more specific in describing the sound. "Sounds like vibration and underpowered" are not descriptions of sounds.

For example, I'll describe the sound coming from my engine. It is a rapid clicking that only occurs in low RPMs. It also happens during idle when the car is first started up. As I press on the gas the clicking becomes more frequent until a certain RPM and than I can't hear it any longer. It almost seems as if it gets quieter as the engine warms up, because on very cold days it is quite noticible.

I don't have any clue what it may be, although, as I hold my head close to the engine, it sounds as if it is coming from the timing belt. Any suggestions on what I should do to designate the problem would be a great help.

And if you had read my post you would have known that I said vibration is not a sound, it is a description of a motion. That's like me saying that my engine sounds like it's bright or perhaps tasty.

Re: Weird Engine noise

Ok, back to the initial problem, decaccord may be correct, my 90 accord started leaking exhaust from both gaskets when I installed aftermarket headers with the original gaskets (long story, don't ask why). After a few hundred miles, they expanded with the heat and whatnot. It sounded as if the engine was getting slightly louder, and the higher I got the RPMs the louder it got. Once the leaks produced the holes it got louder and caused a slight vibration. Try listening to your headers and seeing if you can hear a sound, also, the car started to smell like exhaust on the inside. The solution was easy once I figured out what was wrong. I replaced the two gaskets with copper ones and presto, all was better and it only cost about 15 bucks. Hopefully this helps.

Ok, I'll bite.

I have a weird noise on my 5g too, and its super hard to describe. Its sort of a ringing/scraping noise, as if something was vibrating () on something metal. It happens between 2500 and 3000 rpm.

The eng. teacher... i mean jajimo is his description making sense too??? ringing/scraping noise? nah nah

Yea i may have the same problem as u but it is kinda hard to explain and the noise on my 5th gen accord happens kinda in that range of RPMs too. Havent checked the exhaust system for the noise yet but its my ma's car so if she can live w/ it then its up to her. I just found it a lil irritating and questionable. I drove another 5th gen accord and it did the same thing so im guessing it is a common problem with that generation but not for sure since i didnt drive every 5th gen in the world.
