Question Overhead Console

My father has a 02' Duramax and is looking to upgrade the overhead console to incorporate a compass and thermometer. The local dealer does not seem to be much help. He already has the overhead console with map lights and sunglasses holder but the place where the compass would go on some trucks is empty. Does any one know of any part numbers, aftermarket companies or how to's. He has been talking about this and Christmas is right around the corner.

I think the space you are talking about (just in front of the lights) is not for a compass, its for a rear AC/Heater controler on Tahoes. the compass/thermometer would be in the mirror.

Actually you can find the compass/temperature display out of a 98+ Blazer or Jimmy. I did it on mine and it works prefectly.

Well, the overhead console out of a blazer or jimmy mounts pretty much the same as in the silverado. OR you can take the faceplate and electronics out of the blazer/jimmy console and mount it in the filler space that is currently in the silverado. I did it on my 01 and works fine. The wire harness on the blazer/jimmy has six wires instead of the five from the silverado. It's been a while sense I installed it so I don't quite remember how the wire colors match up but I will try to take a pic of it installed and post it.

Any other items you need inlightening on?
