Insuffiecient EGR flow. How do I fix it?

I have a 2000 Camry LE. The check engine light came on. After connecting to the computer, I was told that it I need to replace my EGR Valve. I did, but the check engine light came back on with the same error message. Does anyone have any suggestions on whatelse I need to consider doing to correct this problem?

Thanks in advance.

EGR modulator or vsv for the EGR not usually the EGR valve. I would say modulator

my guess would be the VSV (vacuum switching valve).
that generation camry ('97 to '01) is notorious for ERG problems, among other things.

Send a message via Yahoo to heathershonda
I took the egr valve out of my 2000 camry this weekend and cleaned it. All i did was cleaned it out really good with throttle body/ carb cleaner. I also cleaned the filter in the egr modulator. It made a really big difference in the car, plus got rid of the check engine light as well.

Re: Insuffiecient EGR flow. How do I fix it?

97 Camry belongs to my father and it's a piece of shit. OK, quicky on a EGR valve cleaning. 2 People required.

1. Buy 2 carb clean spray.
2. Open the air intake to throttle body hose.
3. Spray the 1/2 of bottle down the thorttle plate and the other to that little square hole. Wait for about 5 mins to let it dissolve whatever.
4. Start the engine with gas peddle down all the way and let it rip.
5. Body A keep the RPM at about 4K and turn steering wheel 1/4 left the 1/4 right. You'll hear the EGR valve open and close. Keep doing it while Body B spray 1/2 bottle of cleaner down the square little hole.
Be careful, sometimes there will be blow back and eye protection as well as other precautionary is necessary. (Do this at your own risk, I ain't responsible).
6. Done.

You can not clean EGR by this. The cleaner can not reach EGR vavle.

You're right. Sorry, that was IAC. I'm just as confused now, yo.

Damn @#%# 97 Camry is a piece of @#$%. I have so much #$%^@% problems with it.

I just cleaned the IAC and it starts good now, but then the RPM drops when A/C clutch engage. I'm like, now what.

...the cars designed to do that idle drop when you put the A/C. So what you must be saying is the idle drops too much.
You could try raising the idle a couple hundred rpm, i think on this model you actually have an idle screw.

Re: Insuffiecient EGR flow. How do I fix it?

I see a reference to a "VSV A/C idle up valve" on an engine control schematic for 94s and up. VSV is short for vacuum solenoid valve. I don't see any narrative about it though. It appears to be a different valve than the EGR VSV. It probably bumps up the idle when you turn on the A/C. Just have to figure out where it is. The one for my 87 is on the firewall on the passenger side.
