Cool burnt out light switch

I have a 1989 grand marquis 5.0L and i have replaced the light switch for head lamps once and it keeps "melting" due to some kind of electrical feed back and no one seems to know why it happens..I believe it has something to do with my "idiot light" for fuel is always on and my float works in the gas tank also...Does any one have any dash wiring diagrams for '89 grandmarquis since the chiltons manual i have just doesn't have it..Preciate any responses..

Interesting. Let me know if you find one. I have a 1989 Grand Marquis and the dash/tail lights just stopped working. The fuse is ok. I have not idea what the problem could be. Have you experienced the same situation?

Re: burnt out light switch

I had an 88 Crown Vic and it too burned out the light switch, losing head and tail lights. I attributed it at the time to running hella conversion headlights with 100 watt bulbs in the Hi-Beams. I should have run relays (as I've done on other cars but was in a hurry at the time) and tapped the lights off the battery. Maybe there was more to it then?
